Sundae soup lunch with free ice cream in Michuhol, Incheon: Suraok

I came to Incheon for a business trip today and met a friend who works nearby, so we went to Suraok, a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant near Juan Station known for doing it right, to catch up over lunch.

I was looking for a place near Juan Station where I could eat without stressing over parking, and this place had good conditions plus a reputation for tasty food — and it really was delicious. Takeout at Suraok: 1,000 won off every menu item

At Suraok, the sundaeguk restaurant near Juan Station, every menu item can be ordered for takeout, and they said every item gets ₩1,000 off with takeout orders.

These days some restaurants charge extra for takeout containers, but Suraok actually gives you a discount instead — nothing better than that for customers~

What the 4,000-won set upgrade adds to your sundae soup

When grown men order a bowl of gukbap (soup with rice), it's often not quite enough, but ordering extra boiled pork on top can feel like a lot. That's when a set menu is great — you get a filling meal for a small extra amount.

At Suraok, the sundaeguk spot near Juan Station, adding ₩4,000 lets you upgrade to the set menu with an extra plate of sundae (blood sausage), boiled pork, liver, and other special cuts.

The self-serve bar: pile on the chives

The chives that come with the basic side dishes were the 'kick' point. If you love loading up on chives like I do, you can grab more from the self-serve bar. Besides chives, there's kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), garlic, onion, peppers and other basic sides at the self-serve bar, so you can easily add more as you eat.

Bubbling ttukbaegi, blood sundae and soft liver

I think the soul of gukbap is really that piping-hot ttukbaegi (stone pot) look, isn't it? At Suraok too, the bowl arrived at the table still bubbling hot, which made it look even more delicious.

Trying the set with sundae, boiled pork, and liver, the sundae was the traditional blood-sausage kind, and the liver wasn't dry at all — it had a soft texture.

My friend who came with me said the broth was rich and there was so much in the bowl that it was hard to finish it all. He thanked me for the hearty lunch. I was also glad to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while over a good meal.

Free ice cream after lunch at Suraok Sundaeguk

Usually after a meal, the course is to head to a café for coffee to help digest, right? That's the typical gathering routine.

There was a freezer sitting right at Suraok's entrance, offering free ice cream to dine-in customers. Usually you'd go for coffee after a meal, but thanks to this we skipped coffee, ate ice cream, and chatted briefly in the cool shade before parting ways.

Today I visited a place with available parking near Juan Station, and since you can upgrade to a set menu, I could see other customers leaving after a really hearty meal too.
