Ansan kimchi jjigae with a rabbit lucky bag of snacks: Choburi Gojan

In short

Choburi Kimchi Jjigae Gojan Main Branch is a Korean restaurant serving gardenia stone-pot rice and kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) on the first floor of Hansol Plaza in Gojan-dong, Ansan. On the second Sunday of an Ansan trip, the writer booked a table and ordered the 28,000 won two-person set, adding a 7,000 won buckwheat kimchi pancake and a 5,000 won skin-on Korean pork topping, then received a rabbit-shaped lucky gift bag packed with snacks through the restaurant's review event. With domestic kimchi, unlimited ramyeon noodles and self-serve ice cream, every bowl was cleared — a place worth returning to on the next visit to Ansan.

The inside was really neat and clean. We took a seat and looked over the menu, trying to decide what to order.

What we ordered at Choburi and what it cost

  • ✔️ Two-person set (stone-pot rice, jjigae for two + 3 perilla oil fried eggs + unlimited ramyeon noodles + choice of drink) ₩28,000
  • ✔️ Buckwheat kimchi pancake ₩7,000
  • ✔️ Topping add-on (Korean pork belly, skin-on, 120g) ₩5,000

That's what we ended up ordering.

Side dishes served after ordering

After ordering, the side dishes came out — dried seaweed, pickled gochujang, stir-fried fish cake, and more.

Spoons and chopsticks from the storage space beside the table

To eat the side dishes, we pulled spoons and chopsticks out of the storage compartment beside the table.

Just so you know, if you run out of side dishes, you can help yourself at the self bar ^^

The rabbit lucky gift bag from Choburi's review event

While the main dishes were coming out, I actually joined the review event, you know?

And out popped a cute rabbit — the lucky gift bag.

Barley crackers, yakgwa, and other snacks inside the lucky gift bag

Inside the lucky bag was a whole variety of snacks — barley crackers, jjondeugi (chewy taffy snack), yakgwa (honey cookie), and more. Pretty generous for an event gift, haha.

Sign indicating the kimchi's domestic origin

For those of you like me who care about where ingredients come from — the kimchi is domestic! In this era of sky-high prices, that meant a lot to me, honestly, T_T.

Kimchi jjigae, gardenia stone-pot rice and perilla oil fried egg

Kimchi jjigae served before boiling

Starting with the kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), the dishes began arriving one by one.

Instructions on the table for enjoying the dish

While the jjigae was coming to a boil, I read through the (rather detailed?) instructions on how to enjoy it best.

Kimchi jjigae with tofu and pork

The kimchi jjigae was generously loaded with green onion, tofu, onion, napa cabbage kimchi, pork, and more.

Since we'd added extra meat, this basically became a meat-bomb kimchi jjigae, hahahaha.

While the jjigae kept boiling, the stone-pot rice arrived.

Cooked with gardenia — known for skin benefits, anti-cancer properties, and vascular health — the rice looked like it had a golden glow.

I took a spoonful of rice with the perilla oil fried egg. The nutty perilla oil made the fried egg absolutely delicious.

The kimchi jjigae was bubbling away nicely.

Kimchi jjigae bubbling with ramyeon noodles

Once the jjigae was nearly done, I fished out the ramyeon noodles first to try.

I love noodles so much that I forgot they were scalding hot and just inhaled them like a storm. I genuinely ate in a trance, hahahaha.

The pork was chewy and fresh, so no matter how much I ate, I never got tired of it. I want more already, T_T.

How was the buckwheat kimchi pancake?

The kimchi buckwheat pancake had a chewy exterior and a packed-full interior — totally my taste, honestly.

Plate of buckwheat kimchi pancake

Probably because the kimchi is domestic, both the jjigae and the buckwheat pancake had a very clean, delicious flavor.

Table set with kimchi jjigae and stone-pot rice

Honestly... time flew by, and we cleaned our bowls so thoroughly it's like we scraped a hole through them, hahahahaha.

Self-serve ice cream to finish the meal

After finishing the meal, we scooped ourselves some ice cream for dessert. There was coffee too, but I don't drink coffee so I passed!!!

Self-serve ice cream for dessert

Finishing off with sweet ice cream made me feel like I had the whole world. What's happiness, really? This is happiness, haha.

If I ever come back to Ansan, I'll definitely revisit this place. It was so delicious and the portions were generous ^^
