A new café in Haenggung-dong before the family get-together

Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung (정지영커피로스터즈 신풍점) is a brand-new café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon. Today my husband's family had a dinner get-together, and since we had a little time to kill beforehand, I went to Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung with my older sister and her husband.

I'd been curious about this new café in Haenggung-dong, and the timing worked out perfectly, so off we dashed~

The café is on the second floor of the building. It's a great spot for a short break while you poke around the alleys of Haenggung-dong!

Is Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung roomy enough for a group?

The space was much bigger than I expected, which surprised me! The tables are nicely spaced so it never felt cramped, and there are plenty of seats, so it looked fine for visiting with a bigger group too.

Overall the room is wide open, with a relaxed mood that's perfect for sitting back with a cup of coffee.

What we ordered: Americano, plum ade and French toast

Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung has a good range of desserts as well as coffee! Here's what we ordered.

• French toast

From French toast to tiramisu and all kinds of cake, there were lots of sweet options! You come planning on just one coffee, see how the desserts look, and end up ordering one anyway, the magic haha. Coffee plus something sweet was a great combo.

How does the iced Americano taste?

The iced Americano here wasn't bitter or burnt-tasting, just clean and crisp. Coffee is a must, of course. One sip and the aroma of the beans rose up subtly, with a clean finish that's easy to drink.

It's not the bitter, burnt style, so you can enjoy the real flavor of the coffee in a clean way.

Is the plum ade too sour?

The plum ade (자두에이드) had sweetness alongside the tartness, so it wasn't too sour. It looked so fresh and pretty too! One sip and you really get that sweet-and-sour plum flavor.

It's not just sour; the sweetness balances it, so it goes down easily and leaves your mouth feeling clean. It's perfect when you're craving something zingy instead of coffee! It was also packed with cold ice, so it was a nice drink to have while taking a break from wandering around Haenggung-dong.

Since Jung Ji-young has ades like this as well as coffee, I think it's a good place to visit with people who can't drink coffee :)

Banana brûlée French toast

The French toast here is fluffy toast topped with banana brûlée. Fluffy French toast and banana brûlée turned out to be a much better match than I expected!

The banana brûlée was especially good. The outside is lightly caramelized and sweet, and the inside is soft banana, so eaten with the French toast it's sweet and nutty at once, just right! It went really well with coffee too.

Would I recommend it as a rest stop in Haenggung-dong?

If you've eaten well, wandered the alleys of Haenggung-dong and want a café to rest in for a bit, I'd recommend Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung. There are plenty of coffees, plus sweet desserts like French toast, tiramisu and cake, so it's easy to come for coffee and end up enjoying dessert too!

For anyone looking for a café in Haenggung-dong, it seems fine for a date, with family or with friends. If you want good coffee and dessert while exploring Haenggung-dong, give Jung Ji-young Coffee Roasters Sinpung a visit. I'll probably come back next time I'm in Haenggung-dong :)
