Gwangalli sashimi restaurant, soy shrimp and octopus salad: Geumrang
In short
Geumrang Hoetjip Gwangalli Main Branch (금랑횟집) is an ocean-view sashimi restaurant on the 6th floor of the Marine Rich building in Gwangalli, Busan, looking out on Gwangan Bridge. The Geumrang Hoetjip meal started with abalone porridge, a seafood platter, soy-marinated shrimp, live octopus, vinegared octopus salad and buckwheat mulhoe (cold raw fish soup). Seasonal assorted sashimi on a jade stone followed, then spicy fish stew, fried corn and braised fish, and the sashimi platter could be refilled. Geumrang Hoetjip is a good Gwangalli pick for a full sashimi spread with Gwangan Bridge in view.

This is Geumrang Hoetjip (금랑횟집), a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant and one of my favorite eats in Busan.

Where is Geumrang Hoetjip and what are the hours?
Geumrang Hoetjip Gwangalli Main Branch is on the 6th floor of the Marine Rich building at 17-5 Gwanganhaebyeon-ro 344beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, South Korea. It is open 11:30 to 22:30.

Gwangalli is a must on any Busan trip. Eating fresh live fish while looking at the blue sea and the grand Gwangan Bridge is exciting just to imagine. The Gwangalli sashimi restaurant I visited this time is Geumrang Hoetjip, which boasts a top-notch ocean view and great value.

Where do you park at Geumrang in Gwangalli?
If you drive, the Waterfront Park public parking lot is the easy option.

Geumrang insists on carefully selected fresh live fish every day. I heard it's a Blue Ribbon restaurant and a well-known spot that countless celebrities, even a president, have visited.

Can you see Gwangan Bridge from the 6th-floor window?
The restaurant is on the 6th floor, so the moment you walk in, a wide-open sea view unfolds in front of you. It's open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., so it works for lunch or for an evening drink by the romantic night sea.

Being on a high floor, the window seats look straight out at Gwangan Bridge. The space is large and tidy, fine for a family meal, a group gathering or a date.

Every table has a pad ordering system, so you can pick and order without waiting. The staff were friendly, which put me in a good mood from the moment I came in, and with fishing boats and Gwangan Bridge outside the window, even waiting for the food was fun~ haha
What side dishes come before the sashimi at Geumrang?
One of the biggest charms of Geumrang is the variety of dishes that fill the table before the main sashimi arrives. First up was abalone porridge.

After warming my stomach with the soft abalone porridge, the real seafood party began~♡

A seafood assortment full of sea aroma caught my eye first: thick abalone, bittersweet sea squirt, chewy conch and fresh shrimp. Then came the sweet-salty corn cheese and cheese-baked scallops you'd miss at a sashimi place, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and more, nonstop. The soy-marinated shrimp wasn't salty and was prepared so it was easy to eat~~!

Fresh live octopus, tangy octopus chohoe (vinegared octopus) and buckwheat noodle mulhoe!! Each dish was carefully made, so my mouth was happy even before the main dish arrived~♡

How does the assorted sashimi come out at Geumrang?
The highlight, the assorted sashimi, comes as a generous spread of delicious seasonal fish. It's neatly laid on a jade stone, which keeps the fish fresh and cool until the very last piece.

The slices are cut thick, so every bite fills your mouth with a springy texture and the subtle sweetness of live fish. To taste the fish itself, dip it lightly in wasabi soy sauce, or wrap it in fragrant perilla leaf with nutty ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) or chojang (sweet-sour chili sauce). Both are great.

Flounder sashimi with sea cucumber innards (gonowata)
The best combo I found at Geumrang was sea cucumber innards, gonowata♡ It goes so well with the flounder sashimi~~!! One piece of fresh fish with Gwangan Bridge in the background~~ ㅠㅠ I get why this place has been loved by so many people for so long~! haha

Finishing with spicy fish stew, fried corn and a sashimi refill
No matter how full you are, a sashimi meal ends with maeuntang (spicy fish stew)! Geumrang's is topped with plenty of fragrant water dropwort and enoki mushrooms, so the broth is deep and rich yet really spicy. The fried side was corn! Crunchy fried bites and chewy, tender braised fish~

Plus a refill of the sashimi platter! I ate every last bite ♡ If you're looking for a Gwangalli sashimi restaurant on your Busan trip, it's Geumrang in Gwangalli! Right here~~~!!
