Looking for a great sushi place in Ilsan? I was hunting for a good date spot near Western Dome and ended up at Hwangje Sushi. Once I got there, I loved the clean, tidy atmosphere, which works for solo meals, dates and family dinners alike. Here is my story of this Ilsan sushi spot.
Where is Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch, and how does parking work?
Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch (황제초밥 일산본점) is on the first floor of the M City Sangga-dong building near Western Dome in Ilsan. It sits roughly halfway between Madu Station and Jeongbalsan Station, so it is easy to reach.

I especially liked that free parking is available if you drive. Five whole hours! You can use the underground lot and register your parking after the meal, so it felt no-stress as part of an Ilsan Lake Park date.
Hwangje Sushi opening hours and break time
Hours are 11:00 to 15:00 for lunch and 17:00 to 21:30 for dinner. There is a break time in between, so keep that in mind before you go.

Atmosphere and seating: good for solo meals and dates?
The wood interior and bright lighting make it a calm, comfortable place to eat. The tidy feel hit me as soon as I walked in.
There is a long counter (dacchi seating) for solo visitors. I actually saw people dining alone, and it looked easy and comfortable. By the window there are 4-person tables too, so it also looked fine for a date or a family meal.

Self-serve bar and menu
There was also a self-serve bar, and it was nice to be able to grab what you need easily.
- Broth
- Pickled radish
- Kids' tableware
- Small plates and basic tableware
The menu ranges from sushi sets to Special sushi and seasonal items. From the restaurant's introduction, I learned it also uses a variety of fish beyond flatfish, salmon and tuna, such as herring, horse mackerel and sea bass.
What comes before the sushi? Grilled salmon, sea bream and pumpkin porridge

After ordering, a salad, grilled fish and porridge came out first. The savory grilled salmon and sea bream woke up my appetite right away. I happily waited for the sushi while eating the dressed salad and the soft pumpkin porridge.

What's in the Special sushi, and how does it taste?
The Special sushi I ordered that day included flatfish, salmon, tuna and shrimp, plus seared sushi. Just looking at it, the variety was impressive. The slices were thick and the rice portion was on the small side, so the quality looked good.

The fish is prepared in the shop, and I liked the soft texture typical of aged sashimi.

Mini udon and potato croquette
The mini udon served with the Special sushi has not only fried tofu but fish cake in it! I ate the noodles too. The warm broth went well with the sushi.

The croquette that came as a side was memorable too. It was a potato croquette, crispy outside and soft inside. So, so soft and delicious.
Is Hwangje Sushi a good meal for an Ilsan Lake Park date?

Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is next to Ilsan MBC, so it works well as a meeting spot, and the mood suits a date too. Above all, the easy parking felt like a real plus in Ilsan, where many people come by car.
The sushi is as delicious as the proud description on Catch Table suggests, and the combination of grilled fish, salad and porridge before the meal is good too. I would like to visit again when I get the chance! If you are looking for a place to eat near Western Dome or Ilsan Lake Park, it is worth a visit.
