Abalone cream risotto at a Gwangju Suwan pasta restaurant: Bueokgan

Hope you all made it through Malbok (the last of the three dog days of summer) okay haha ^^ Feels like the heat is finally starting to break ^^ But it's still hot, so everyone take care of yourselves ^^

There's a really good pasta place in the Suwan district of Gwangju, so I went to check it out ^^ Honestly, I love Bueokgan so much ^^ There are so many menu items I love haha

The pastry soup especially is a true favorite of mine. I wanted to introduce it so you all can enjoy it too!!

Bueokgan Suwan Branch location, hours and parking

The address of Bueokgan Suwan Branch is Suwan-dong 1340, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and the road address is 37 Suwan-ro 106beon-gil, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. Business hours run from 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM, with lunch last order until 2:30 PM (may close earlier if ingredients run out) and dinner last order until 8:20 PM (same rule). Break time is from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

There's no dedicated parking lot, so just park in any open spot nearby. Everyone here is a parking pro ^^

What Bueokgan Suwan Branch feels like right at opening time

Every time I go to Bueokgan, I basically do an opening run. Whenever I'm passing through Gwangju, this is always my first stop ^^ The inside of Bueokgan Suwan Branch was spacious and clean. The lighting is soft too, so I'd strongly recommend it for dates or tidy get-togethers. Good stuff!!

How does the pastry soup, the No. 1 dish, taste?

I ordered it first and it came out first — the pastry soup. The crispy-outside, soft-inside pastry sheet is truly a favorite flavor you can't find anywhere else!!

Poke it with a spoon and out comes a bright yellow sweet pumpkin soup. It's not too sweet, not too plain — exactly the flavor I like. It's my personal No. 1 favorite item, and also Bueokgan's No. 1 menu item ^^

Shrimp anchovy oil pasta: enough to win over a cream pasta fan

The second dish was actually my first time trying it — normally I'm a cream pasta person haha. But today I really wanted to try something new, so I ordered the oil pasta haha. It was delicious enough that I thought, I'm so glad I tried this at Bueokgan haha

An oiliness that isn't too heavy, loaded with fresh shrimp and tomato — this signature oil pasta!! The right amount of oil, the right amount of spice, and plump shrimp texture completely won me over ^^

I want to learn how they get the pasta noodles just right — it hit my taste buds perfectly haha

Wow, look at these plump shrimp!! Biting into one made me so happy ^^ Writing this review is making me want to eat it again haha. Next time I'm in Gwangju, I'll have to stop by and get this again ^^

Abalone cream risotto, a midsummer restorative dish

The last dish to introduce is the abalone cream risotto haha. I'm such a cream lover that I only eat cream pasta, but with risotto I usually go for something spicy — today I did the opposite and ordered cream risotto haha

The thick, rich cream had finely chopped abalone mixed in, yet the texture was still there — such a curious dish haha. The cream was rich but never too heavy, a surprisingly balanced risotto haha

I really savored this abalone cream risotto bite by bite. It wasn't what I ate on Malbok itself, but it was the perfect midsummer pick-me-up dish, and it became my new favorite ~~^^

Today was another happy day, spent eating well at Bueokgan Suwan Branch ^^
