In short
Katsu Shokudou Suyu (카츠쇼쿠도우 수유점) is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant on the first floor of Episode Suyu 838 near Suyu Station in Gangbuk, Seoul. Today I'm at one of my all-time favorite kinds of places: a tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant! I heard there's a great spot for eating alone near Suyu Station, and I happened to be passing through, so off I went to dine solo! If you work near Suyu Station and are looking for a place to eat by yourself, I highly recommend Katsu Shokudou Suyu!
Where is Katsu Shokudou Suyu, and is it good for solo dining?
Katsu Shokudou Suyu is on the first floor inside the Episode Suyu 838 building at Suyu Station. There's a sign next to the escalator, so it was easy to find!

Inside, there's one 4-person table, three 2-person tables and bar seats. With the 2-person tables and the bar, it's perfect for eating alone~! I went at an awkward time, 2:30 pm, so there were no other customers and I could take my time haha.

What's on the menu at Katsu Shokudou Suyu, and how much is it?
The menu has nabe (hot pot), tonkatsu, donburi (rice bowls), curry and udon! Tonkatsu comes as an a la carte dish or a set (jeongsik), and the set includes either udon or cold soba!

The main items are ⬇️
- Mozzarella cheese katsu ₩14,000
- Loin katsu ₩13,000
- Fillet katsu ₩14,000
- Katsudon (katsu rice bowl) ₩14,000
- Katsu curry ₩17,000
- Set meal +₩3,000
I think ₩14,000 for cheese katsu is a really reasonable price! And after eating it, I was honestly so grateful for this taste at this price (?)
How was the mozzarella cheese katsu set with extra curry sauce?
At Katsu Shokudou Suyu, I ordered the mozzarella cheese katsu set and added curry sauce on the side. The set side was udon! I'm a firm believer that udon goes with tonkatsu.
Until 2 pm I'd had nothing but coffee, so I was running on empty T_T I was sooo hungry that I ordered a bit too much! Ta-da! The food came out pretty quickly!! I was so hungry and so excited!!!!

Everyone, as someone who absolutely loves tonkatsu, the cheese katsu at Katsu Shokudou is really good. The breading is totally crispy, the pork is juicy and tender, and the mozzarella stretches like crazy!!
Amazing, right?????? And for anyone thinking "well, of course it stretches when it's just come out hot"!!!!

Look at this... wowwowow This is the last piece and it's in exactly the same condition as the first piece.... I've honestly never had cheese katsu like this 🤍🤍🤍🤍 So good 🤍🤍🤍 And you can feel the pride in the mozzarella right from the name haha. The mozzarella was really rich and delicious.

3 ways to enjoy the cheese katsu
I tried the cheese katsu at Katsu Shokudou Suyu three ways: with tonkatsu sauce, with wasabi + pink salt, and with curry sauce.
- Dipped in tonkatsu sauce
- Wasabi + pink salt
- Curry sauce
They were all so good I can't pick a favorite. If I had to, the wasabi + salt combo...? 🩷

The set's udon and the curry sauce
The udon that came with the mozzarella cheese katsu set tasted clear and refreshing, just like it looks!! (I don't mean bland.) Udon really is the best partner for tonkatsu.

I love curry too! Curry + tonkatsu can't go wrong, right!? haha

What's the recommended way to eat at Katsu Shokudou?
The tables at Katsu Shokudou Suyu even have instructions on how to enjoy the tonkatsu!
- First, take a bite as it is (once you taste the real quality, you'll see why, lol)
- Next, with Himalayan pink salt
- Then top it with yuzu wasabi for a bite
I loved mixing methods 2 and 3 haha. I'm not usually the type to gush, but it was so good that I told the owner it was delicious on my way out.. lol
If you're looking for a solo-dining spot or a great tonkatsu place near Suyu Station, I genuinely recommend Katsu Shokudou Suyu. Tonkatsu is the classic office-worker lunch~! For tonkatsu near Suyu Station, it's Katsu Shokudou!
