A family lunch pick near Yeoju Outlet and EQ Biopark

On a sunny day this week I stopped by Yeoju to head to EQ Biopark with family. Before playing hard, we needed something filling, and I found a Yeoju lunch spot that both kids and adults could enjoy without complaint — a ramen and tonkatsu place ᐠ( ᐢ ᵕ ᐢ )ᐟ

Gyugyu Donkatsu (규규돈카츠) is close to both EQ Biopark and Yeoju Premium Outlets, making it a perfect meal stop before or after visiting either.

Is parking easy?

There's a wide parking lot behind Gyugyu Donkatsu, so there's zero worry about parking, and even new drivers can park with plenty of room. It's so spacious it's hardly necessary, but there's parking in front of the shop too.

Still busy even at 11:30am

We came for family lunch around 11:30am, and already families and couples had beaten us to it, then more and more kept streaming in after us — felt like I'd found a proper Yeoju tonkatsu spot, which made me happy ~ The place was clean and spacious too, a pleasant space without a trace of oil smell.

That's the owner ദ്ദിᵔ· ̫·ᵔ₎⟡.· On one wall there's a photo of him making tonkatsu himself, which somehow builds trust. The person in the photo was busy moving around the restaurant hahaha

Butcher-shop meat and house-made noodles

Gyugyu Donkatsu says it makes its tonkatsu fresh every day using meat from a family-run butcher shop, choosing meat carefully as if feeding their own family — so the quality of the meat itself is guaranteed!!! And beyond tonkatsu, they put a lot of effort into their noodle dishes too, with a dedicated noodle-making space where dough is kneaded and aged with care, and noodles pulled fresh every day.

There's also a self-serve bar and free rice refills!

What we ordered

Gyugyu Donkatsu's signature items are juicy tonkatsu and chewy-noodled ramen, available as single dishes or as generous set menus letting you enjoy two flavors at once. Since there's a free noodle top-up when you order ramen, you can eat even more filling and satisfying!

Gyugyu menchi katsu

One of the best menu items at Gyugyu Donkatsu!! Gyugyu menchi katsu, cabbage salad, clear soup, and Yeoju rice. It arrives set out neatly like a full table spread — visually stunning.

A mountain of shredded cabbage salad

Thinly shredded cabbage is piled up like a mountain. Drizzle on the sauce sitting beside the table and toss it, and the nutty, tangy dressing refreshes your palate throughout the meal, so you can eat to the end without feeling greasy.

They also give you Gyugyu menchi katsu sauce in a small dish. There's wasabi at the self-serve bar, so grab some!!!

Each menchi katsu is packed with whole vegetables. Cut the thick, golden-brown fried patty in half and you find whole pieces of the original ingredients inside — broccoli with a mild sweetness and crunch, eggplant with sweet juice that bursts softly, and mushroom adding a chewy texture and savoriness. Combined with the meat's natural flavor, it tastes even richer!

Solo chashu ramen set

The perfect choice when you want both ramen and tonkatsu.

Rich ramen bowl from the solo chashu ramen set

A savory broth aroma fills the bowl and drifts up, stimulating the appetite!!! It's a milky, rich broth that's been simmered long and deep, feeling almost like a bone broth soup. One sip in and I was already thinking about Yeoju rice ~~ creeping in.

Scoop up some broth on a spoon, top it with the soft-boiled egg, and eat it in one bite — the savory yolk, well-seasoned and salty, melts down like cream and blends exquisitely with the rich broth, making everything feel even more smooth and full-bodied in the mouth. The chashu falls apart softly along its grain with no need to chew, and the ramen noodles are genuinely chewy through and through!

Right after finishing the ramen, I grabbed rice from the self-serve bar. Mix it right into the broth.

Seriously, how filling can one bowl of ramen be ʢ˶ᵒ ᵕ ˂˶ʡᶻ

The rosu katsu served alongside is great with tonkatsu sauce, but dabbing on wasabi instead gives it a spicy kick that cuts through the fried richness — I kept reaching for the wasabi, it was addictively good!!

Side hire katsu and ebi katsu

My sibling and I each had our favorite — ebi katsu (shrimp cutlet) and hire katsu (fillet cutlet). The hire katsu was definitely tender, so even cut into big pieces, it vanished from a full mouth instantly hahaha. I cut the ebi katsu with scissors, but next time I'll just bite right into it hahaha

In summary

  • Meat quality guaranteed thanks to a family-run butcher shop
  • Exceptionally chewy house-made, hand-pulled noodles
  • Generous set menus plus self-serve bar, free ramen noodle top-ups, and free rice refills for a satisfying, filling meal

If you're stopping by Yeoju, Gyugyu Donkatsu is a great pick for a date, a meal with friends, or family dining.
