For a weekend family outing, we went to Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch (호밀원샤브칼국수 김포본점) in Geolpo-dong, Gimpo, with our 8-month-old baby. It is near Ilsan Bridge and Gimpo City Hall, so it is easy to get to—and with its own building and a large parking area, it was especially convenient to drive there with a baby ❤️

Is it easy to visit with a baby?

When dining out with a young baby, the atmosphere and amenities are what I worry about most. But when we got there, there were genuinely lots of family tables with babies like ours.
- Clean baby chairs and baby tableware are well provided.
- The staff were so fond of our baby and welcomed us kindly, so we could eat comfortably without feeling self-conscious.
A friend who lives in Gimpo said it is already famous in local moms’ cafés as a great restaurant to visit with a baby, and I could see why!!
The Hansang Gadeuk Special with sanghwang mushroom shabu

At Homilwon, a popular shabu-shabu spot in Gimpo, you first choose either king short-rib shabu or sanghwang mushroom shabu, then pick an accompanying option. The options are warm boiled pork, cold boiled pork, and stir-fried webfoot octopus. I heard the sanghwang mushroom shabu had a rich broth, so I ordered the Hansang Gadeuk Special shabu-kalguksu with sanghwang mushroom shabu.

Before the shabu-shabu pot comes to a boil, you can have beef, mushroom and radish rice at the self-service bar—and that is this restaurant’s signature specialty. Made with Gimpo Geumssal rice (the Chamdream variety), a Gimpo specialty, it has an especially lovely chew, while the beef, mushrooms and radish come together beautifully. There are gochujang (Korean red chili paste) and soy sauce seasonings, and both are delicious;; It was a great way to warm up and fill the stomach before the main dishes.

An incredibly abundant Hansang Special spread arrived.

- The five-part shabu course includes fresh vegetables, shabu meat, rye kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), perilla-oil fried rice, and beef, mushroom and radish rice.
- It also comes with premium Korean pork warm boiled pork made by a master recognized in the boiled-pork category of the World Food Master program, plus sweet-spicy, fire-kissed stir-fried webfoot octopus. It is truly a feast that will leave you stuffed.

The sanghwang mushroom shabu had a rich broth, and the warm boiled pork and stir-fried webfoot octopus were impressive too. But what makes Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu special is the care put into every single ingredient.
For the shabu meat, they use Australian chuck roll TEYS No. 7 S-grade, known as a premium cut. It is lean, pleasantly chewy, and clean-tasting.

The rye kalguksu uses fresh noodles made from rye flour grown in Hamyang, South Gyeongsang Province, rather than regular wheat flour, so the noodles are springy and sit comfortably after the meal. For the fried rice and radish rice, they use only omega-3-rich perilla oil pressed directly at an oil mill, giving every bite a deeply nutty aroma.

Fresh minari (water celery) made the broth even more fragrant and deep. They say it is delivered daily from minari fields in Gochon.
Self-service dessert corner after the meal

After finishing the meal happily, there is a self-service dessert corner to enjoy however you like. There is warm, wholesome sanghwang mushroom tea carefully brewed from domestic mushrooms, cool and nutty misutgaru (mixed grain powder drink), and not ordinary popcorn but crisp, sweet premium caramel popcorn—such a perfect ending for grown-ups and kids alike~
