Yongsan ramen restaurant with melting dongpo pork: Menya Seoul

In short

Menya Seoul Yongsan I'Park Mall Branch is a ramen restaurant on the 7th floor of I'Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul. Before a movie preview, I had the 17,900 won dongpo pork chashu ramen set and 11,900 won whole pork belly mazesoba, with tender meat and a sea-scented broth standing out. A great stop when a ramen craving hits.

Menya Seoul location on the 7th floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall

Menya Seoul is on the 7th floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall. It is near the escalator, so it is not hard to find.

Next to the ordering counter, there is an illustrated menu board and food models, so they are helpful when ordering.

Guide to the numbered ordering system

Ordering by number makes it even easier. A system where you can order by number—so convenient, I think. With a set, you can choose one of three sides (crispy gyoza, karaage, or sweet soy-sauce chicken rice bowl) and one of five drinks (Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Pororo drink, or sparkling water).

Menya Seoul menu selection guide

For ramen, you can choose between dongpo pork and jambon, then choose an individual dish or a set. There are three broth options: mild, spicy, and mala. Whatever suits your taste~ haha

Spacious dining area at Menya Seoul

There is a large dining area right beside it like this. We grabbed a table before ordering. Since it was early on a weekday, there were seats, but around mealtimes there are barely any here. So scary! This is a place where claiming a seat is important!

Waiting with a pager after ordering

Ordered, got our pager, and waited! Hehe

What Comes with the Dongpo Pork Chashu Ramen Set

Ramen and crispy gyoza set components

The dongpo pork chashu ramen set arrived. It came with ramen, the crispy gyoza we chose as the side, and Sprite for the drink. Danmuji (pickled yellow radish) came as a side dish too.

Ingredients in dongpo pork chashu ramen

Menya Seoul's signature dish is the dongpo pork chashu ramen. It has dongpo pork chashu, freshly minced garlic, egg, wakame seaweed, scallions, and more.

Ramen with dongpo pork chashu

It was my first time having ramen with dongpo pork in it. I was very curious about that dongpo pork chashu, haha, so I tried it first. As I chewed the meat, it melted in my mouth. The meat was really tender. Menya Seoul says it is ramen where the chashu shines, and I think that is true, haha. This dongpo pork chashu is really distinctive. The chashu shone!

Ramen with thin noodles and wakame seaweed

The noodles are on the thin side. They were not chewy-firm noodles; they came softly cooked. Maybe because of the wakame, the ramen broth had a sea scent. As someone who likes seafood, it was just right for me, haha.

Crispy gyoza. The set came with three dumplings.

The gyoza were fairly crisp outside, with meat and vegetables inside. Not japchae dumplings~

How the Whole Pork Belly Mazesoba Tasted

We ordered one set and one individual dish: the whole pork belly mazesoba. Neither of us was very hungry, so we ordered this combination~ The mazesoba had one long piece of whole pork belly.

Mazesoba with bonito flakes and seaweed

It had bonito flakes, seaweed, chopped scallions, egg yolk, and seasoning.

Mazesoba mixed with secret seasoning

I mixed it thoroughly with the secret seasoning and tried it.

Whole pork belly being cut with chopsticks

The pork belly was tender enough to cut easily with chopsticks. I cut it into bite-size pieces and ate it with the noodles.

Whole pork belly mazesoba with noodles

I also ate the noodles on their own without the meat... haha. Maybe because of the seaweed and katsuobushi (bonito flakes), the mazesoba also had lots of sea scent. I often have mazesoba with fresh garlic, but this one does not have it, so it lacks that sharp garlicky heat and is a flavor that even people who cannot eat spicy food can enjoy. The special sauce had a slight sweetness and was not intensely spicy, so it was just easy to eat.

Guide to ajitama and ramen ingredients

This was the paper laid on the table. It says the ajitama (seasoned soft-boiled egg) is aged for 48 hours, the ramen broth uses 25 ingredients, and the dongpo pork is made with five-layer pork belly and weighs 100 g. A lot of care goes into this food! There are really lots of great places to eat at Yongsan I'Park Mall, but not many ramen shops. When you are craving ramen, head to Menya Seoul on the 7th floor of I'Park Mall!
