Gangnam Station course dinner date: Jeju black pork steak, Flat Nine
In short
Flat Nine is a restaurant and lounge on the 5th floor of a building on Gangnam-daero 65-gil in Seocho, Seoul, near Gangnam Station, serving course dinners alongside live performances and cocktails. The writer had the Classic Course for 2 (₩78,000) at 6pm on a Monday. The scallion carbonara and chocolate cake were good, but the Jeju black pork tenderloin steak, so tender it could pass for beef, stood out most. Verdict: to catch the show at Flat Nine, arrive around 7pm to line up with the performance time.

How was the Classic Course for 2 at Flat Nine near Gangnam Station?
I had the Classic Course for 2 (₩78,000) at Flat Nine near Gangnam Station on a Monday at 6pm, and the food came out far more upscale than I expected. The Jeju black pork tenderloin steak was honestly the surprise winner, and next time I want to go back for cocktails and snacks timed with the performance. If you want a nice atmosphere around Gangnam Station, Flat Nine was pretty good.
I first thought of it as just a nice-looking date spot in Gangnam, but once I went, the food lineup was solid enough that it felt more like a restaurant and lounge where you can have a full course meal than a plain bar.
We visited on a Monday at 6pm, and since the Monday performance starts at 8, honestly we were a bit early. If you want the show too, I think it's better to come around 7, eat, and then keep going with cocktails or snacks when the 8pm performance begins.

Why I picked Flat Nine as a Gangnam date spot
Flat Nine has a wide menu: courses, pasta and steak à la carte, plus cocktails, highballs and wine cocktails. That made it a good bar in Gangnam for those in-between days, not quite dinner and not quite drinks. Gangnam Station has so many restaurants that choosing is actually hard, right?
Some days eating alone feels like a waste, but just drinking makes dinner awkward. Flat Nine sat nicely in the middle. It looked like a good choice for a blind date, an anniversary, a night out with friends, or a day when you want to see a performance too.
If you're looking for a good pasta place near Gangnam Station, the plus here is that you don't just get one plate of pasta. Within the course you also get salad, steak and dessert.

Flat Nine menu and prices
We ordered the Classic Course for 2 at ₩78,000 for two people. On the menu, the courses were split mainly into the Classic Course and the Signature Course.
The à la carte menu was quite varied too. Drinks included highballs, cocktails and wine cocktails, mostly in the ₩16,000–19,000 range. If you plan to drink, adding a cocktail after the meal seemed the most natural way to go.

First course: bread, salad and melon salmon scallop canapé
The first course of the Classic Course at Flat Nine came with bread and a salad. The salad was endive with assorted vegetables and grapefruit, fresh and crisp, a good appetite starter.
Honestly, when a course opens with something too heavy, it can feel like a burden before the later dishes, but this salad was light and easy. The bright grapefruit cleaned up the palate before moving on to the next dish.
Pasta pick: scallion carbonara
For the Classic Course pasta, I chose the scallion carbonara, said to be Flat Nine's own style. It has salt-house guanciale (cured pork cheek), Grana Padano and scallions, and it looked like a thick, rich carbonara topped with egg yolk.
They say carbonara is often tweaked by each restaurant in its own way. Since this one was described as Flat Nine's own style, I picked it thinking I could only eat it here.
It wasn't just heavy and greasy; you got nutty richness, saltiness and the aroma of scallion together. It wasn't intensely strong, more soft and nutty, and not overwhelming for a date.
The best dish: Jeju black pork tenderloin steak
The best thing at Flat Nine that day was really the Jeju black pork tenderloin steak. It's dry-aged Jeju black pork tenderloin grilled over binchotan (white charcoal), and on the first bite it was so tender I thought, "Wait, is this beef?"
Wow, honestly, I figured pork steak would taste somewhat predictable. But it was much softer than I expected. It practically melted in my mouth, and the meat pulled apart gently instead of breaking off dry like ordinary pork. Maybe that's why the aroma and texture felt so premium.
It came with mango purée, pepper and grilled green onion, so there was fun in eating it with the sauce too. If I had to pick just one dish to remember from Flat Nine, it'd be this steak. Honestly I liked it better than most beef.
Even the dessert was properly done
The Classic Course dessert was a chocolate cake, and it was better than I expected too. It didn't feel like a token dessert at the end of a course; it felt like something a hotel or restaurant would serve to finish.
It wasn't just overly sweet, but moderately sweet and rich, so it was a good way to end the meal. While eating it, I thought it would go really well with a Guinness. We had plans that day and couldn't drink, so next time I want to try the dessert with a dark beer or a cocktail.
Flat Nine atmosphere and service
Flat Nine has dark, warm lighting, so photos capture the mood well, and every seat is carefully prepared with table ordering, a storage basket and even hand cream. The food is one thing, but the space itself was really nice.
The wall interior looks upscale too, and it felt less like a place where you eat and leave and more like a lounge that flows into performances and drinks. The storage basket made it easy to put down a bag, and the hand cream was a quietly nice touch.
Small details like these add up on a date. A place that feels comfortable and thoughtful stays with you more than somewhere chaotic and complicated.
Best time to visit Flat Nine
The Monday performance at Flat Nine starts at 8pm, so arriving at 6 felt a little early to wait for it. That timing was the one thing we found a bit disappointing.
So if you want to enjoy the performance too, I think it's better to arrive around show time rather than too early. 6pm is fine for just a meal, but to really enjoy Flat Nine's atmosphere, a course that continues into cocktails and snacks seemed to suit it better.
Also, the interior is on the dark side, so it's better to take photos at a bright seat or near a light. The mood is great, but food photos can vary depending on the lighting.
Good to know before you go
- If you want to see the performance, time your visit to the show.
- It's less a place to eat quickly and leave, and more a space for sitting slowly, talking and having a drink.
- The lighting is dark, so if you want bright, clear food photos, pay some attention to your angle and the lighting at your seat.
Would I go back to Flat Nine?
Yes, I'd go back to Flat Nine. Next time I want to visit around the performance time and try cocktails with gambas (garlic shrimp) and dessert.
My biggest regret this time was not being able to drink because of my schedule. The Jeju black pork tenderloin steak in particular stuck with me enough that I want it again. If you're looking for a date course near Gangnam Station that's neither too light nor too heavy, you'll likely be quite satisfied with Flat Nine.
To sum up, Flat Nine was a Gangnam Station date spot where the atmosphere, food and service all fit together well. The Classic Course for 2 was a nice setup for two people, and more than the pasta, the Jeju black pork tenderloin steak was the unexpected star. Next time I plan to go back at performance time and properly enjoy cocktails and snacks.
