Yeoksam Korean BBQ: snow-flake jingalbi with salt and wasabi, Raviok

In short

Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch is a grilled beef restaurant about 320m from Exit 6 of Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. At Raviok the thick-cut snow-flake jingalbi (beef short rib) roast was grilled and eaten with only salt and wasabi, alongside icy muksabal (chilled acorn jelly soup) and hot galbi yukgaejang (spicy beef rib soup). The light seasoning lets the beef's own flavor come through, and the spacious dining room makes Raviok Yeoksam a solid choice for group dinners.

Why I picked Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch, a Korean BBQ spot near Yeoksam Station

I was looking for somewhere to eat beef near Yeoksam Station and ended up at Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch this time. There are so many offices and restaurants around Yeoksam that the options for Korean BBQ are endless, but finding a place with a decent atmosphere where you can actually eat proper beef is still surprisingly tricky.

This time I was curious about the snow-flake jingalbi (short rib) roast, so I went in to try it haha. Eating just meat felt like it needed something extra, so I added mukbap and galbi yukgaejang too, and the three together turned out to go really well.

300m walk from Yeoksam Station Exit 6

The location is about 300m from Yeoksam Station Exit 6. It's close enough to walk from the station, so accessibility is decent. Right from the entrance the vibe is a bit different from a typical Korean BBQ place. Walking inside, that same atmosphere from the outside carries through.

What's the atmosphere like at Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch? Could it work for a group dinner?

The inside of Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch is a lot more spacious than I expected. Wood-toned tables and chairs line the room, and long fabric drapes with small lights hang from the ceiling, giving it a subtly nice atmosphere haha.

Rather than the usual loud, chaotic feel of a Korean BBQ place, it's on the calmer side. There are plenty of tables and the space feels generous, so it works well whether you're two people eating meat together or a bigger group. Worth keeping on the list if you're looking for a Yeoksam-area work gathering or team dinner spot.

Choosing the menu: snow-flake jingalbi roast + mukbap + galbi yukgaejang

I browsed the menu slowly first. The meat is divided into categories like Ravi roast, Ravi marinated roast, snow-flake jingalbi roast, and snow-flake jingalbi marinated roast.

What we chose was the snow-flake jingalbi roast. Since it was my first time trying it, I picked the plain roast version so I could taste the meat itself rather than the marinade. And since meat alone felt like it needed company, I added mukbap and galbi yukgaejang too haha.

Snow-flake jingalbi roast — the thickness stands out right away

The first thing that caught my eye the moment the snow-flake jingalbi roast arrived was, of course, the thickness. This isn't meat sliced thin for a quick sear — each piece comes out nice and thick. Even before grilling, it looked delicious haha.

Beef browning on the surface of the pan

The meat goes onto the heated pan piece by piece. That moment when it sizzles and the surface starts to brown is the most exciting part of eating meat lol. Because of the thickness, they sear both sides golden first, then cut it into bite-sized pieces and cook it a little more.

Trying snow-flake jingalbi with just salt and wasabi

Once cut into bite-sized pieces, you could even see the cross-section inside — it looked amazing. Cooked without overdoing it, the thickness gave it a satisfying chew too 👍 I ate the first piece plain, the next with a bit of salt, and another with a little wasabi on top.

Personally I prefer eating beef simply rather than piling on lots of condiments, so this suited my taste well haha. Since the meat wasn't thin, biting into it really felt like eating meat. I moved the nicely browned pieces onto a plate and ate them one by one.

Icy mukbap, a good dish to eat between meat

And then, mid-meal, the mukbap showed up. It looked refreshingly cool lol. Icy slush was piled high in the middle, with mukbap (acorn jelly), kimchi, seaweed flakes, and vegetables generously arranged.

A few pieces of meat, then a spoonful of mukbap, and my mouth felt completely refreshed. The soft jelly slides down easily in the cold broth, and with kimchi and seaweed flakes mixed in it never gets boring. Especially on hot days like these, having something cold like this to order alongside means your hand just keeps reaching for it between bites of meat. One piece of meat, one bite of mukbap, another piece of meat lol.

Finishing the meal with galbi yukgaejang

If mukbap is on cold duty, then galbi yukgaejang is on hot duty. It comes out piping hot in a stone bowl, steam rising right away. Inside there's a good amount of meat, bean sprouts, and green onion, and the broth is on the spicy side.

If you're someone who wants a proper final dish after eating meat, I'd recommend adding a galbi yukgaejang to share lol. At a Korean BBQ place the main meat matters, but I also pay close attention to how the side dishes work together — and this day's menu combination turned out to be a pretty solid success haha.

Wrapping up Raviok Yeoksam Main Branch

The dish I liked most that day was, without a doubt, the snow-flake jingalbi roast. Grilling the thick-cut meat golden brown on the pan gave it a satisfying chew, and since the seasoning wasn't strong, it was easy to enjoy the beef's own flavor.

It's not far from Yeoksam Station so accessibility is decent, and the space is roomy enough that it's worth considering if you're looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Yeoksam Station, a spot for a Yeoksam team dinner, or beef in the Yeoksam-dong area 👍 Next time I'd like to order the snow-flake jingalbi roast alongside the marinated version to compare the two.
