Yeouido Station Japanese restaurant, Dad's first gyukatsu: Hurato
In short
Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is a gyukatsu (beef cutlet) and steki (Japanese-style steak) restaurant on the 3rd floor of Yeouido Finance Tower, near Exit 3 of Yeouido Station in Seoul. At dinner with Dad, who had come up to Seoul for the first time in a while, the writer ordered the gyukatsu and the steki set (19,500 won each) and grilled both on a mini tabletop brazier, and Dad, trying gyukatsu for the first time, enjoyed doing the grilling himself. Hurato Sikdang Yeouido is a cozy, Japanese-style gyukatsu spot near Yeouido Station that suits an unhurried, chatty dinner with parents.

Dinner in Yeouido with Dad, visiting Seoul
My dad came up to Seoul for the first time in a while. We decided to meet around Yeouido, timed to when his own errands finished. While searching for dinner ideas, I found a famous restaurant near Yeouido Station, so off we went! It was lovely to chat with Dad over a good meal after so long, and I'd recommend the place.
How to get to Hurato Sikdang from Yeouido Station

Hurato Sikdang is within a 3-minute walk of Exit 3 of Yeouido Station, so it was easy to find. ✔️ It's on the 3rd floor of Finance Tower. There are lots of offices around, so there always seem to be plenty of customers at lunch and dinner. It's clearly a popular place.

Go in through the side door next to Hollys Coffee and whoosh up to the 3rd floor.

Hurato Sikdang :) 🇯🇵 🥩 🔥
What does "Hurato" mean?

I heard "hurato" (후라토) means "all of a sudden, out of the blue!" Such a romantic meaning, somehow it softens your heart! Apparently Hurato Sikdang began with three young men who suddenly took off on a trip to Tokyo, Japan. A dash of romance from the very start, so I was excited before I'd even eaten.

There's a waitlist registration machine at the entrance, which gave off the proper vibe of a famous place with a line.
Hurato Sikdang interior and seating
The inside of Hurato Sikdang Yeouido has that cute yet warm Japanese feel. The slightly dim lighting makes the whole place cozy and atmospheric. It's perfect for quiet conversation. There's also a long counter for solo diners, great for eating alone and unwinding.

It has everything from tables for two to bigger tables for groups. Solo meals, dates, gatherings, lunch, all covered! A comfortable space to enjoy.
How to order and menu prices at Hurato Sikdang

You order with NFC at the table, which was convenient. I ordered the gyukatsu for ₩19,500 and the steki set for ₩19,500. Starting with the signature gyukatsu, the menu offers a variety of Japanese dishes like omurice (omelet rice), steki, curry and rice bowls. A whole lineup of tasty Japanese food..!!
- ✔️ Gyukatsu – ₩19,500
- ✔️ Steki set – ₩19,500

Got a handy tip for eating gyukatsu deliciously!

Before the food comes out, the staff light the mini brazier on the table. Flames roaring in a tiny brazier..!! It's small, but the heat is much stronger than you'd expect. Enjoy a little fire-gazing while you wait to put the meat on.
The food arrives! The neat, tidy presentation typical of Japanese food made me feel full and happy already. And you grill it yourself, to your own taste..!
Dad's first gyukatsu, grilled on a mini brazier

The dish I picked for Dad was Hurato's gyukatsu. He'd never had gyukatsu, and I wanted him to try it.
The gyukatsu came rare, only the outside lightly cooked, thick-cut, with a gorgeous pinkish-red grain. Before even tasting it I thought, yep, this is a real gyukatsu place-! Approved!!

(By the way, Hurato Sikdang is famous for being shouted out by Lee Young-ji. They also say the members of CORTIS used to come every weekend and eat here back when they were trainees!)
The moment the gyukatsu hit the brazier, a sizzling sound burst out!

I think Dad had fun grilling it himself on the brazier. Even though it's a mini brazier, the heat is so strong that it cooked quickly, so we didn't wait long to enjoy it.

I sneaked a bite of Dad's gyukatsu. The meat was so tender it felt like it melted, with a rich, nutty flavor and loads of juice.

It's good dipped in the special sauce, and it paired cleanly with a bit of wasabi on top. The crunchy cabbage salad was good too! Gyukatsu place approved!
How was the yakiniku-style steki set?

I ordered the steki set (₩19,500) out of curiosity. I thought Hurato only sold gyukatsu, but there's steki (steak) you can eat yakiniku-style (grilled-meat style)!

Beef is my favorite thing to eat anyway, so my heart was pounding the moment the food came out!

I like the yakiniku style of putting pieces one by one on a small brazier, and I was happy that I could enjoy it at such good value.
The heat is strong, so the meat cooks fast. The fat rises up nuttily over the brazier, and the aroma alone whets the appetite.. it gets glossy and looks so tempting. Juice bursts in your mouth, and it's so tender with a deep, rich flavor.

Both the gyukatsu and the steki are so good.
How to eat steki as a rice bowl

Put a piece of well-grilled steki on warm rice and top it with wasabi, and you've got a steki rice bowl! It's filling enough to be a full meal, which I liked.
Authentic Japanese gyukatsu in a space full of Japanese charm. I recommend Hurato Sikdang, a gyukatsu restaurant near Yeouido Station :)
