Baby calcium for weaning food, tested 1 week: Grow Lab

In short

Grow Lab is a baby calcium supplement in Korea that is introduced as containing calcium, magnesium, vitamins D and K, and manganese. The writer mixed one sachet into her 6-month-old baby’s morning weaning food for one week; the individual packs were convenient, though it did not dissolve easily. Verdict: Worth considering after comparing ingredients if you want calcium to add to weaning food.

I tried Grow Lab to fill out my 6-month-old’s weaning-food nutrition

My Nani started weaning food early, from 4 months old, and constipation began early too. Now that she has entered 6 months, she seems to have lower immunity or something, because she keeps getting little illnesses.

I was looking into all sorts of things because people say supplements are essential for 6-month-old babies. Beyond the lactic acid bacteria and probiotics she already takes, I received Grow Lab as a sponsorship, which can help fill other nutritional gaps too, and tried it for a week—so here is my real review :)

Ingredients Grow Lab is introduced as containing

Grow Lab is an organic calcium product that includes not only calcium but also a blend of magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin K, and manganese. They are nutrients needed for bone growth overall, so it is something my little one, who is growing hard, really needs.

Here is Grow Lab’s nutrition information! They say that adequate vitamin D intake along with calcium is important for bone growth and preventing osteoporosis. Calcium tends to be lacking in children’s weaning food, and they say 7 out of 10 people do not consume enough calcium. (Source: Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

Also, calcium is a nutrient with a low absorption rate in the body when obtained from food, so even when it is consumed through regular foods, it falls far short of the daily requirement and needs to be supplemented separately! That is what Grow Lab is trying to address.

One sachet a day, mixed into morning weaning food

Grow Lab only requires one sachet a day. In my case, I consistently add it to Nani’s morning weaning food every day!

Grow Lab baby calcium comes with 30 sachets in a box, divided into packs of 10. Personally, I like supplements portioned out like this. It is because they stay neatly organized and are easy to take out in just the amount you need!

They are pocket-style packs, so they are great to carry around in your pocket too! When you travel, taking just the amount you need is very nice!

My child’s reaction, the powder’s taste, and how it dissolves

Grow Lab is a recommended supplement for 6-month-old babies. My nephew is on the small side for his age, so I recommended it to my older sister too, and she is diligently giving it to him; she loves that he eats it really well without refusing it. My Nani is not usually a picky child, so she eats Grow Lab better than anyone too!

Grow Lab baby calcium is a slightly beige-colored powder. I always try a baby supplement myself before giving it to my baby, and it is hard to say it tastes good, but also hard to say it does not taste good, haha. It does not really have a taste, but it kind of does... It is hard to describe what that taste is—almost tasteless, but with a little flavor... (a nutty taste that is not off-putting).

But it did not dissolve as well as I expected, so I recommend mixing it into formula made with warm water or into weaning food warmed in the microwave!

Comparing ingredients when giving it with probiotics

I give Grow Lab together with Biotamin (lactic acid bacteria)! Nani has shown constipation symptoms since starting weaning food, so I make sure to give her lactic acid bacteria. There is not a single overlapping ingredient between Biotamin and Grow Lab, so I can give them to her with peace of mind!

If there are overlapping ingredients, I worry the baby might consume too much and perhaps get diarrhea or a stomachache, so I always compare ingredients before giving supplements!

On days my husband has to feed her weaning food (the days I go to school), I portion out the morning weaning food in advance like this and place the supplements the baby needs that morning on top, then tell him so he can give them together. (Nani, you cannot live without Mom, right?)

About the beige powder and its particles

As I mentioned above, Grow Lab is a sliiightly beige color! I explained that it does not dissolve as well as expected, but it turns out calcium has a characteristic gritty sort of feel. Grow Lab baby calcium is one of the products made with particles as small as possible so children can take it easily!

Still giving it while paying attention to bone growth

Although Nani is on the tall side for her age, she also weighs more than average, so I am very focused on her bone growth. Along with giving her supplements, I do height-growth massages (Tunteun Massage) frequently every morning and afternoon to help her grow well.

Ever since I read an article saying that child growth is very important through acquired effort beyond genetics, I have been caring for Nani more sincerely than anyone, hoping she will reach at least 170 cm.

One reason I sincerely recommend Grow Lab is that, in February 2024, it became the first supplement in Korea recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as an organic processed food containing calcium, magnesium, manganese, vitamin D, and vitamin K!

If you are looking for a calcium product for a baby who has just turned one, I recommend Grow Lab! It comes in individual packs, so you can conveniently add one sachet to food and give it to your child. It has no strong taste, making Grow Lab a bundle of essential nutrients that even babies with sensitive palates can take without resistance! Wishing all our children health and strength—let’s be moms who do our best again today!
