Hyehwa hanok wine bar in Seoul: Riesling and gambas at Hyehwarang

Today I visited Hyehwarang, a wine bar in Hyehwa with such a nice vibe 🍷 It had been a while since I hung out with friends and I wanted somewhere with good atmosphere — I was so satisfied haha. Lots of wine, delicious food, and above all that hanok feel was amazing, so I'd highly recommend it as a Daehak-ro date spot too!!

Inside the hanok-style space down the alley from Hyehwa Exit 4

It's a short walk from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station, set back in an alley. I liked that it's away from the main road, so it was quiet.

The moment you walk in, there's wine, sake, whiskey and more lined up at the entrance and counter! So many good drinks, my eyes were everywhere 👀

The place is really spacious and clean! Lots of seats and comfortable, so it looks great for booking as a group too 👍🏻 A hanok-concept wine bar! The lighting isn't harsh at all, it's soft and romantic!

There's outdoor seating too! On a nice day I bet it'd be lovely to drink wine outside.

Such good interior... the bathroom was clean and nice too!

Hyehwarang menu: how many wines are on the list?

Looking at Hyehwarang's menu, they've got a pretty wide range of drinks, and especially a huge selection of wine! Price ranges go all the way up to premium lines. Wine lovers, you have to visit! There's also whiskey, beer and more, so even people who aren't into wine can enjoy themselves together haha 🍺🍾🍷🥂🥃

The food menu is simple! Not many items, but they all looked delicious so it was such a struggle to decide,,,, We ordered the 'Relax Riesling' white wine, chosen because it felt like it matched Hyehwarang's relaxed, easygoing atmosphere. We were really hungry so we ordered these anju (drinking snacks) too.

What does the Relax Riesling white wine taste like?

The staff prepared the wine nicely chilled for us. Our Relax Riesling had a sweet fruity aroma with just the right touch of acidity! It was low ABV at 9%, and the body was light, so it was easy to enjoy cleanly!

I liked how neatly they poured it for us!

The Relax Riesling was so good, I want to come back and try other kinds of wine next time 🥂🥂

Food to share: gambas & baguette

Gambas & baguette. The bread was chewy and the gambas was genuinely delicious,,,

See how huge and plump the shrimp are!! There were plenty of them too. Loads of garlic, and dipping the baguette in the oil was so good. Highly recommend! It goes really well with wine.

Bacon and tomato pasta at Hyehwarang

The bacon pieces were huge! Plenty of sauce, and the tomato flavor was strong, so it paired really well with the wine. The noodles were super thin so they soaked up the sauce nicely.

There was plenty of steak along with onions, mushrooms, peppers and other vegetables. The portion was big so we got really full 🤤🤤

The meat quality was excellent and so tasty. Another recommend!

They even gave us an apple on the house 🍎🤍 Eating it at the end was such a refreshing finish, loved it.

Who is Hyehwarang best for?

There aren't many wine bars with this kind of atmosphere in Hyehwa, so I had such a great time at Hyehwarang! The lighting isn't too bright and the overall feel is calm, which made it easy to chat comfortably. With that hanok charm, I'd especially recommend it to couples who want a quiet date while taking pretty photos!
