In short

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is a three-floor bakery café in Mugyo-dong, between City Hall and Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, and the newest branch after the Seorae Village flagship. At Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun the writer ordered a choco baguette (6,800 won), a pain au chocolat (6,200 won), a hot flat white with heart latte art (6,300 won) and an iced Noir coffee of the day (4,800 won), and named the choco baguette the best of the day. When the weather keeps changing like it has lately, nothing heals quite like tasty bread and a cup of coffee in a cozy, stylish space. Today I visited a very special hot spot that has just settled into Mugyo-dong, between City Hall and Cheonggyecheon.

It's Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun (레망도레 광화문점), newly opened in Gwanghwamun on the back of the popularity of the Seorae Village flagship!

What is Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun like? A floor-by-floor look from 1F to 3F

Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is nicely put together over three floors: a specialty coffee bar on 1F, tables good for chatting on 2F, and a Fritz Hansen lounge on 3F.

  • 3F: a lounge in collaboration with the world-famous Danish furniture brand Fritz Hansen!

What is the 3F Fritz Hansen lounge like?

In the 3F Fritz Hansen lounge at Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun, you can sit in luxurious Fritz Hansen furniture while you drink your coffee. The 3F space was especially impressive: the green view through the big windows, the stylish lighting and the designer furniture together made me feel like I was in a showroom. It's a lovely City Hall café and bakery space, whether you come alone to think or gather with friends to chat.

The bakery lineup at Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is excellent too. There was so much I wanted to try that I agonized a bit!

There's a wide range of coffee too, so pick whatever suits your taste! I also tried a single-origin hand-drip coffee as a tasting sample, and it was excellent.

What did I eat and how much was it? Choco baguette, pain au chocolat and flat white

Coffee and bread ordered at Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun

This day at Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun I ordered two coffees and two signature bakery items: a choco baguette and a pain au chocolat (called "bbang-o-shokolla" in Korean), with a hot flat white and an iced coffee of the day.

The order: choco baguette, pain au chocolat and two coffees
  • Choco baguette (₩6,800)
  • Pain au chocolat (₩6,200)
  • Flat white, hot (₩6,300)
  • Coffee of the day: Noir, nutty and chocolatey (₩4,800, iced)

The heart latte art flat white and the Noir coffee of the day

The order came out prettily arranged on a tray, and the flat white, topped with carefully made heart latte art, made my heart skip from the look alone. The nutty, smooth steamed milk and the rich espresso went together so well that I was smiling the whole time I drank it.

And the iced coffee of the day (Noir beans) had a heavy, nutty richness with a subtle chocolate flavor, which made it perfect to sip alongside the bread.

Best of the day: the Lemangdoré choco baguette

The best of the day was, without question, the choco baguette! Inside the plain, simple baguette you bite into rich chocolate studded throughout, sweet in a pleasant way without being too sweet. It was sliced for easy eating, so it was simple to pick up one piece at a time,

and the pain au chocolat, with its crisp, flaky layers, had a buttery aroma I could feel layer by layer. One bite and I understood right away why Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun is getting a reputation as a signature City Hall café and bakery. I accidentally picked two chocolate breads, but this place turns out to be great at chocolate!!! Dipping it in the latte foam was heaven.

Are Lemangdoré madeleines really a Gucci VIP gift?

Lemangdoré baked sweets: madeleine introduction

According to the info displayed in the shop, Lemangdoré's madeleines are currently given as VIP gifts by the Italian fashion house GUCCI! If they collaborate with a world-famous brand, you can sense the quality and care in the desserts, right? They're also reportedly a hit every year as holiday gifts, thank-you presents and Christmas event gifts, so I'll definitely come back when I need baked sweets as a gift.

Verdict: is Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun worth going back to?

Final-verdict photo from Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun

Great coffee, great bread, and a lovely space filled with Fritz Hansen furniture! Nothing fell short, and it was a perfect visit. If you want to enjoy freshly baked bread in a stylish atmosphere, I recommend stopping by Lemangdoré Gwanghwamun, the City Hall café and bakery in Mugyo-dong.
