Namdaemun Market optician: over-strong -8D prescription fixed same day
In short
Angyeonggwa Saradeul (안경과사람들) is an optician inside Namdaemun Market in Jung-gu, Seoul, within walking distance of Hoehyeon Station. The writer, who has -8D high myopia, came to Angyeonggwa Saradeul only to replace the lenses, but a precise eye exam showed the old glasses were stronger than the writer's actual eyesight, so the prescription was adjusted and the frames were swapped for a pair with smaller lenses. The verdict is that Angyeonggwa Saradeul is a Namdaemun Market optician worth returning to, with same-day glasses even for high myopia and a thorough eye exam consultation.

Can a Namdaemun Market optician make -8D high myopia glasses the same day?
At Angyeonggwa Saradeul (안경과사람들), an optician in Namdaemun Market, even -8D high myopia glasses could be made the same day. My eyesight really is that bad, T_T. Without glasses I can only make out the shapes of people;; I've worn glasses since fourth grade, and still can't see a thing without them.

With a prescription like mine, opticians near my home always had to special-order the lenses and I waited days. But at Namdaemun, same-day production!! I only truly understood why Namdaemun Market is called the holy land of glasses after experiencing it myself~~

It was my first time having glasses made at a Namdaemun optician, and now I know exactly why people come all the way here for them 👍👍
Where is Angyeonggwa Saradeul, and where can you park?
Angyeonggwa Saradeul is at 199-6 Hoehyeon-dong 1-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul, inside Namdaemun Market (61 Namdaemunsijang-gil, Unit 101). There's no private parking, so use the nearby Shinsegae Department Store car park. It's a convenient spot to combine with browsing the market.

By public transport, it's a walk from Hoehyeon Station. The shop already has a word-of-mouth reputation as a Namdaemun optician, so it isn't hard to find even on a first visit.
Inside Angyeonggwa Saradeul at Namdaemun Market
The shop isn't flashy, stylish or spacious. Honestly... it has that humble Namdaemun Market feel, but it has everything you need and is well put together.

There were trendy clear small oval frames, classic frames that older customers like, and quirky frames with unusual shapes.

From trendy house brands to classic designs, you get a wide choice here.
What frames does Angyeonggwa Saradeul carry?
They have clear oval frames, thick classic horn-rims (acetate frames) and light, thin metal frames. This range is exactly why people who visit Namdaemun opticians are so happy.

From current trends to classic designs, there are plenty of frames to pick by taste and purpose.

The owner recommends types depending on whether you'll wear them only indoors or outdoors too, and this advice was really helpful!!

Why I came for new lenses and left with new frames
I originally went to Angyeonggwa Saradeul just to replace the lenses, okay? But the owner looked at my frames, said they were wobbly, and swapped the screw first. They were still loose, T_T, so this time I decided to buy new frames.

The owner's professional eye naturally led to the right choice instead of needless spending.

There were also lots of frames in varied designs and colors that older customers would like!

The eye exam that showed my old prescription was too strong
In the precise eye exam at Angyeonggwa Saradeul, I found out the glasses I'd been wearing were a much higher prescription than my actual eyesight!!! Even more surprising was the testing process. He already knew my old prescription, but said that since I'd come all this way, we should take the lenses out and check anyway.
So that's why I kept feeling dizzy, getting migraines and being uncomfortable T_T T_T

I followed the owner's advice, adjusted the prescription and switched to frames with smaller lenses, and everything looked much more comfortable and clear.

This was the first time I truly felt what a difference a precise exam by someone with long experience makes.

Contact lens advice from a photo of my eye
The owner even showed me a photo of my eye. He said my eye health has no major problems, but asked whether I could see these spots around the edge of the eye. That's what appears when you wear contact lenses for a long time, and if there are more, your eyes gradually turn hazy!!! So scary...

I'm going to stay away from contact lenses from now on T_T

Is Angyeonggwa Saradeul worth going back to?
The owner is kind and they take Zero Pay, so I'll definitely come back here next time. I strongly recommend it if you're looking for a Namdaemun optician, want glasses made quickly at a reasonable price, or want professional advice with a properly chosen pair!!
