Amsa Station tonkatsu with free salad and soup refills: Tonka, Seoul

In short

Tonka is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant right outside Exit 4 of Amsa Station in Gangdong, Seoul. After a wait at 7pm, two loin-and-tenderloin tonkatsu sets at 15,000 won each and a zero-sugar cola arrived at the counter seats, and each slice was dipped in turn in lemon salt, tonkatsu sauce and mustard, with the salad and soup refilled to finish full. The limited sashimi katsu sold out right before our eyes, but the crisp, juicy, pink-centred tonkatsu at Tonka was more than satisfying on its own.

Where is Tonka near Amsa Station, and when should you go?

Today I was craving Japanese-style tonkatsu, so I visited Tonka, a tonkatsu spot near Amsa Station known for it. Tonka is right at Exit 4 of Amsa Station (Line 8), open 11:30–20:30 with a break time of 15:00–17:00 and last order at 20:00. Evening service closes once they run out of ingredients.

Tonka's menu and what we ordered

Here's Tonka's menu board.

We ordered the tonkatsu (loin + tenderloin) at ₩15,000 x 2, plus a zero-sugar cola at ₩2,000.

The 7pm wait and the counter-seat atmosphere at Tonka

The exterior was a clean-looking building, and even though it's a newly opened restaurant, it was packed with customers — there was a bit of a wait!

We finally got a seat! We visited around 7pm. Since they close once ingredients run out, it seems better to call ahead before heading over.

View of Tonka's clean, minimal interior

The interior had a clean design with counter-style seating for about 10 people! The owner was cooking with incredible care, checking the temperature carefully at every step—

Since they start cooking immediately after ordering and carefully control the temperature, it took a bit of time—

Being an open kitchen made the cleanliness even more visible — spotless, max points 👍🏻👍🏻

The limited sashimi katsu sold out right in front of us

We went at 7pm, but sure enough, the limited-quantity menu was sold out 😭 Next time I'll come earlier and try it..! It sold out right in front of us and I was so sad. I'm really curious about the sashimi katsu—

My companion and I ordered two tonkatsu and a zero-sugar cola!

What comes with the Tonka tonkatsu set: salad, soup and sides

The tonkatsu set came out generously portioned — the basic side dishes were salad, gat kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), and soup. Lemon salt, tonkatsu sauce, and mustard were also provided—

The side dishes paired cleanly with the tonkatsu, and the combination with the soup was great 👍🏻

Tonkatsu three ways: lemon salt, tonkatsu sauce and mustard

Finally, the crisp-outside, tender-inside tonkatsu arrived. The portion was seriously generous! It reminded me of the tonkatsu I had while traveling in Japan — so touched,,

Crisp-outside, tender-inside, pink-centered tonkatsu — the first bite went in lemon salt, the next in tonkatsu sauce, and another in mustard, mixing it up in various ways. The salad and soup are refillable! It paired so well with the sauces.

The tonkatsu was thick and hearty, so we walked out completely full! Being counter seating, it seems great for solo dining as well as for a date — that's Tonka.

The juiciness was amazing, I want to eat it again.
