Wangsimni café with melt-in-your-mouth Basque cheesecake: Eojil In
In short
Eojil In is a two-floor bakery dessert café right outside Exit 6 of Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul. On a weekday evening when Eojil In was full, the writer barely got a seat and tried the signature Basque cheesecake (₩5,900), a Valrhona chocolate financier (₩3,500) and an iced Americano (₩5,000); the Basque cheesecake was the melt-in-your-mouth type rather than dense. For a café near Wangsimni Station and Hanyang University where both the coffee and the desserts are good, Eojil In's Basque cheesecake is a must-order.

teaday~ It's Ttocha here, having another cup of tea today :) I'm introducing Eojil In, a Wangsimni dessert café known for its Basque cheesecake.
Eojil In Wangsimni Station Branch: location and opening hours
Eojil In Wangsimni Station Branch is at 18 Majo-ro 9-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (1st and 2nd floors, Haengdang-dong 1-26). It's open 9:00–22:30, with last order at 22:00. Come out of Wangsimni Station Exit 6 and it's right there, so the access is seriously great.

Eojil In's atmosphere: can you get a seat on a weekday evening?
Eojil In has two floors. I thought there was a third floor, but it's just a staircase, such a curious layout! I went on a weekday evening and every seat was taken, omg. While I was wondering what to do, a seat opened up and I just barely got to sit down.

It's incredibly popular. Lots of students from nearby Hanyang University come, and because it's right in front of Wangsimni Station, plenty of people also drop in before meeting up with someone. The space is really cozy and pretty, but every seat was full so I couldn't take photos, sob.
It's a great place for chatting and for studying (café study, or "cagong" in Korean), so there were all kinds of customers: people on their own, people with friends, and people on dates.
Eojil In drink menu: the signature is the ice cream latte
The drink menu is smaller than you'd expect. The signature drink is the ice cream latte, and the ice cream is that rich milk ice cream from Baekmidang and Paul Bassett!!! You have to try this.

I had it on a visit way back in the day, and I remember right away how good it was. The Americano and latte are available as decaf too, and there are more teas and other drinks than coffees.
Eojil In desserts: from Basque cheesecake to Matilda cake
And Eojil In is a bakery café, right? Their desserts are really well done. The taste is one thing, but the looks are truly excellent.

On one side, whole uncut Basque cheesecakes are on standby, and on the other, sliced Basque cakes are lined up by type. There are also roll cakes, egg tarts, pain au suisse, and the Matilda cake, the peak of chocolate cakes, which is riding the algorithm.

Financiers, madeleines and gift sets
The baked goods (guwoom gwaja) are beautifully displayed too. Besides the plain financiers and madeleines, there are financiers and madeleines in all kinds of flavors like chocolate, cream cheese and churros, so choosing is hard... They also sell packaged gift sets, and the combinations are so cute~ I think getting one as a present would feel really nice.

What I ordered at Eojil In and the prices
- Iced Americano ₩5,000
- Signature Basque cheesecake ₩5,900
- Valrhona chocolate financier ₩3,500

At Eojil In, cake, and especially the Basque cheesecake, isn't optional, it's a must. I picked a rich chocolate financier too, so the drink had to be an Americano! Eojil In's Americano is clean and true to the basics. The nuttiness was just right, and I finished it in no time, haha.

Is Eojil In's Basque cheesecake dense or soft?
Eojil In's signature Basque cheesecake isn't the dense type, it's the melt-in-your-mouth type. If Basque cheesecakes generally come in a dense style and a melting style, Eojil In's is so soft it's almost like slightly firmer whipped cream.
Because of that it doesn't taste very sweet, and as it melts away the softness lingers on your tongue. How does it go with coffee? Need I even say! Take a bite of the Basque cheesecake, savor it a little, then sip your coffee, and that's it!!

How does the Valrhona chocolate financier taste?
Eojil In's Valrhona chocolate financier has the deep flavor of a chocolate bar that blends well with the buttery batter, and a bit of salt on top makes it a proper sweet-salty-sweet-salty combo. It gives you the feeling that it would be mind-blowingly good eaten fresh from the oven after just letting it cool a little. I thought the chocolate financier would go really well with a hot coffee.
If you're looking for a café near Wangsimni Station or Hanyang University, come visit Eojil In, with great coffee and great desserts :)
