Yongsan snack bar, sundae & fritters in tteokbokki sauce: Hyeonseonine

In short

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch (현선이네 용산본점) is a tteokbokki snack bar on Hangang-daero 39-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, which started as a street food cart in 2004. The 26,000 won Hyeonseonine combo set brought tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), sundae (Korean blood sausage), fried snacks, mini gimbap and fish cake in one go, and the sundae and fritters tasted even better dipped in the tteokbokki sauce. For sharing a full spread of Korean street food around Yongsan or Yongridan-gil, the combo set at Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is a good choice.

Snack bar food (bunsik) always puts me in a good mood. Spicy tteokbokki (chewy rice cakes in chili sauce), crunchy fried snacks, sundae (Korean blood sausage) and fish cake make a filling meal and bring back memories too. Hyeonseonine (현선이네) Yongsan Main Branch started as a street food cart in 2004 and has been loved ever since, and I could really taste why: familiar, yet addictive. If you're craving bunsik in Yongsan, it's worth thinking of first. I had a very satisfying time.

Where is Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch?

Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch is on Hangang-daero 39-gil in Yongsan, Seoul, so it's easy to get to. It works well after wandering around Yongsan Station and Yongridan-gil, and it's an easy spot for a walk afterward. That makes it a good stop if you're looking for a Yongsan or Yongridan-gil eatery.

Atmosphere and interior

The place had a friendly vibe that anyone can feel comfortable in. Eating alone is no problem, and it also suits friends, family or couples sharing a variety of dishes. The bright, lively mood kept me in a good mood throughout the meal.

The clean, tidy interior left an impression. The seating was comfortable for a meal, and the whole place was well kept, which I liked even more. It's a space that suits a casual visit for good bunsik.

What comes in the Hyeonseonine combo set?

I ordered the Hyeonseonine combo set. It has tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, mini gimbap (small seaweed rice rolls) and fish cake, and the best part was getting to try so many things at once.

Sweet and spicy Hyeonseonine tteokbokki

The signature tteokbokki had a balance of spicy and sweet seasoning. It wasn't harsh so much as the kind of addictive flavor you keep thinking about, and the chewy rice cakes blended well with the sauce, so I enjoyed it to the last bite. It was easy to feel why so many people have loved it for so long.

Sundae and fried snacks dipped in tteokbokki sauce

The sundae was soft and mild, and it went even better with the tteokbokki sauce. The fried snacks were crispy outside and moist inside with a great texture, and dipping them in the tteokbokki sauce made them even more satisfying.

Mini gimbap and fish cake

The mini gimbap came in bite-size pieces that were easy to pop in, and the fish cake with its warm broth added a comforting taste. Instead of eating just one thing, you get a variety of snacks together, so it was plenty for a filling meal.

Service, takeout and delivery

The staff were friendly, and everything moved quickly from ordering to the food arriving. The shop was kept clean so I could eat comfortably, and takeout and delivery are both available, which is a plus since you can use it in different ways.

How much is the Hyeonseonine combo set?

I ordered the combo set for ₩26,000. With tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, mini gimbap and fish cake, it's generous and good for sharing among several people. Considering the lineup and the amount, I found it very satisfying.

Why I recommend Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch

The biggest draw was tasting tteokbokki that carries the know-how Hyeonseonine built up since starting as a street cart in 2004. With addictive tteokbokki, a combo that lets you enjoy many kinds of snacks at once, and a relaxed atmosphere, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great tteokbokki place in Yongsan. It also seems a satisfying choice if you're planning a meal in Yongridan-gil.

Final verdict

It was a satisfying visit: delicious tteokbokki at the center, with sundae, fried snacks, mini gimbap and fish cake all in one go. I could feel for myself why it has been loved for so long, and if you're looking for a good Yongsan restaurant, tteokbokki spot or Yongridan-gil eatery, I recommend giving it a try. 100 out of 100.
