Hunta Euljiro is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant on the ground floor of the Fastfive building near Euljiro-ipgu Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. After work, the writer and a partner split a fillet katsu set and a loin katsu set half-and-half and added 2 pieces of cheese katsu for ₩3,500. I found an amazing tonkatsu (Japanese-style breaded pork cutlet) spot in Euljiro! Its name is Hunta Euljiro 💗 Here's a sneak peek at the main menu...

The fillet katsu looks incredible, right? It's so tender and soft that you could practically eat it without teeth, just with your gums. Highly recommended.
Where is Hunta Euljiro?

Hunta Euljiro is on the ground floor of the Fastfive building near Euljiro-ipgu Station, just a 3-minute walk from Exit 1. It seems to be a newly opened shop, and I liked it so much that I feel like I'll become a regular.
Hunta Euljiro is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant, and when I went around the end of the work day, there were quite a few customers! Lots of people were eating alone, so it seems like a good Euljiro spot to visit solo too.

I went in through the ground floor of the Fastfive building and Hunta Euljiro was right there. The exterior was neat and clean, and I walked in grinning.
Inside Hunta Euljiro and the seating

The inside of Hunta Euljiro is super clean, with a good mix of seats for 1, 2 and 4 people. It's great alone and of course great with company, a really top-notch Euljiro tonkatsu spot.
Hunta Euljiro menu and how to order

You order on a tablet at the table. There's a mixed katsu set with fillet, loin and cheese, and also a limited-quantity premium loin katsu set. We ordered a loin katsu set, a fillet katsu set and 2 pieces of cheese katsu.

Honestly, I was tempted by the kimchi stew set on this flyer, but it was already sold out in the evening, sob. Oh well, I'll come back for the kimchi stew next time, haha.
What is the fillet katsu set at Hunta Euljiro like?

The fillet katsu at Hunta Euljiro gets 100 points just for looks. I think it might be the best tonkatsu in Euljiro. The center of the fillet looks slightly pink, but it's slow-cooked at a low temperature and fully cooked through.

I couldn't believe it even when I saw it, so here's a close-up, haha. The set also comes with a cabbage salad, and the corn dressing went really well with it.

The set at Hunta Euljiro comes with kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), green onion kimchi, broth and white rice. The set itself is well put together, so it's filling.
How is the loin katsu set at Hunta Euljiro different from the fillet?

The charm of the loin katsu at Hunta Euljiro is the fat attached in just the right amount. If you like something with a bit of richness, I recommend the loin.

The set is the same; only the cut of meat differs. Wasabi and mustard come along for dipping. It was great for splitting half and half with my partner. The loin had a stronger pork flavor than the fillet.

Low-temperature cooking means a 15–20 minute wait
Side view, haha. The katsu at Hunta Euljiro is cooked at a low temperature, so the batter itself is soft. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to cook. Frying slowly in lower-temperature oil seems to make the meat even more tender. It was honestly the most delicious tonkatsu I've had lately, the best.
Since the pork flavor is strong, the staff recommended sprinkling pepper on it, so I sprinkled some right away. The loin definitely goes well with pepper.
Is the cheese katsu at Hunta Euljiro worth adding?

The cheese katsu at Hunta Euljiro is ₩3,500 for 2 pieces. It was totally worth ordering,, I would have regretted skipping it.

The cheese stretches out, and you really have to eat it while it's hot. And I hope you'll definitely add it. It's a taste you already know, but a taste that's even better because you know it. Dipped in the sauce, it was even tastier,, anyway, it was the flavor I remembered longest after the fillet.

My partner ate theirs with mild mustard and lots of pepper. Praise upon praise for this tonkatsu. If you're looking for a good place in Euljiro, I highly recommend Hunta Euljiro.
Fillet or loin: which should you pick?

Cross-section of the loin, haha. If you don't like fat, I'd recommend the fillet at Hunta Euljiro. I personally liked the fillet more than the loin! Next time I want to try the premium loin!!

Green onion kimchi + tonkatsu, a perfect match
And the perfect combo: green onion kimchi + tonkatsu. I had no idea they'd go together this well. If you make tonkatsu at home, definitely serve it with green onion kimchi,, it's a truly great pairing. There are lots of good places in Euljiro, but if you're craving tonkatsu near Euljiro, I highly recommend Hunta Euljiro!!
