Daejeon Chinese restaurant, 8-seat table team lunch: Macheonchwi

In short

Macheonchwi (마천취) is a large, upscale Chinese restaurant on Dunsan-daero 117beon-gil in Mannyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, with plenty of seating. Six coworkers sat at an 8-seat table for a weekday lunch and shared Peking-style tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, medium), Chinese cold noodles, samseon jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and samseon ganjjajang (dry black bean noodles) topped with a whole abalone; the noodle portions were truly generous and the staff were friendly. How did we end up at Macheonchwi in Mannyeon-dong, Daejeon?

Macheonchwi (마천취) is a Chinese restaurant at 18 Dunsan-daero 117beon-gil, 1st floor, in Mannyeon-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. It is open every day from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. There is a parking garage under the building, and if it's full you can park on the roadside~

One of the teachers at our institute went once and recommended it, saying it was delicious. I decided we had to go, and ended up heading over with a whole crowd of coworkers haha

What is Macheonchwi's exterior and parking like, and is it busy at weekday lunch?

Even though it was a weekday lunch, the building's parking lot was full, so we parked on the roadside and walked in. We drove there, and the huge Macheonchwi sign was visible from far away! I'd heard it has loads of seats and is an upscale Chinese restaurant, so I was even more excited.

(It was a chance to see how many office workers come to Macheonchwi even on a weekday lunch, lol)

What are the interior and seats like at Macheonchwi, and can 6 people sit together?

Right at the entrance of Macheonchwi, a Chinese-restaurant-style menu board and a course-meal sign greeted us lol

Hair ties and mint candies at the Macheonchwi entrance

They even put hair ties and mint candies at the entrance, what a thoughtful touch..! A popular restaurant is popular for a reason, I think.

Macheonchwi has sooo many seats, so the 6 of us sat comfortably together at an 8-seat table. I'd actually worried there wouldn't be enough seats or that we'd have to split up, but as you can see in the photos, there were plenty, and we ate together comfortably and cozily haha

What are Macheonchwi's menu and prices?

Macheonchwi has sooo many menu items. I didn't capture it in the photos, but as an upscale Chinese restaurant, it also has course meals! For the detailed menu I couldn't fit in, check Macheonchwi's page on Naver Map haha

Macheonchwi table with the ordered tangsuyuk and noodle dishes

We ordered Peking-style tangsuyuk (Chinese-style sweet and sour pork, medium), Chinese cold noodles, seafood jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and seafood ganjjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles)!

  • Peking-style tangsuyuk (medium, serves 3-4) ₩28,000
  • Chinese cold noodles ₩13,000
  • Seafood jjamppong ₩13,000
  • Seafood ganjjajang ₩11,000

They brought side dishes of pickled radish (danmuji), zha cai (Chinese pickled mustard stem), and pickles, plus small plates!

If you need more side dishes, other tableware or aprons, you can grab them yourself at Macheonchwi's self-serve bar!

Can you do both pour-on and dip with Macheonchwi's Peking-style tangsuyuk?

The Peking-style tangsuyuk came out first, with the sauce served separately, so both the pour-on (bumeok) camp and the dip (jjikmeok) camp were happy haha You could already see the crunch just by looking at it.

Wow~~~ There were 6 of us, so we split it and put some on each side of the table! (As I'll say later, the noodle and rice dishes are sooo big, so even if the tangsuyuk looks small, it's not small at all lol)

How do you eat Macheonchwi's Chinese cold noodles?

Macheonchwi's Chinese cold noodles come with peanut butter. A friend ordered this one, and since I'd never had Chinese cold noodles, I didn't know how to eat them. It seems you mix the mustard and peanut butter in well and eat!

They said it's a refreshing~ and tasty dish for hot summer days haha According to my friend, it's delicious.

How big is the seafood jjamppong at Macheonchwi?

Macheonchwi's seafood jjamppong came in a huuuge bowl, and the seafood, abalone included, was sooo generous. Can you see the size? My hands aren't small, and a jjamppong this big still came out.

Macheonchwi's seafood ganjjajang comes with abalone on top?

The Macheonchwi seafood ganjjajang I ordered (₩11,000) had a whole abalone on top, and I was shocked as soon as it came out..! It also had plenty of shrimp and squid inside! I mixed it up well and ate it haha

It was a sweet jjajangmyeon! My coworkers said it wasn't, but to my taste even the ganjjajang had a lingering peanut butter aroma (maybe it's just me), and it was uniquely delicious! (That's a compliment)

One thing to note: the portions are really big lol Light eaters could even share one between two haha

Is Macheonchwi a good place for a workplace lunch outing?

  • Even at lunchtime, lots of office workers came for the lunch course meals
  • The restaurant is very spacious, so I recommend it for group meals! It seems perfect for a lunch outing
  • Recommended if you like sweet jjajangmyeon!
  • The noodle and rice dishes (cold noodles, jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, etc.) were sooo big
  • All the staff were friendly, which put me in a good mood
