Dunsan-dong gopchang restaurant, extra makchang and a mini fan: Uhwa

This heat wave is insane lately,, (sweat) It's so hot I had zero appetite T_T So to heal my appetite with gopchang, I raced over to Dunsan-dong.

Uhwa Gopchang: location, hours and parking

Uhwa Gopchang (우화곱창) is at 58 Daedeok-daero 195beon-gil, Unit 105, Seo-gu, Daejeon, South Korea, and it's open every day from 5pm to midnight. There's a basement parking garage where you can park free for 2 hours.

Can you have a group dinner here on a weekday at 7pm?

We came on a weekday at 7pm and the tables were already full of customers. It was hot and humid outside, but the air conditioning was on full blast the moment we walked in, so happy haha. The tables are big too, so a group of four would totally work, I think? I'd recommend it for a company dinner or get-together (shall we do our lab's next dinner here?)

We first ordered the recommended Uhwa platter for two. You order on the kiosk at the table, and some items aren't on the menu board, like milmyeon (Busan-style wheat noodles), bibim milmyeon, yukgaejang kalguksu (spicy beef soup noodles) and so on? There was also omija-flavored soju (the schisandra berry kind)~ Is the owner a youngster? Haha (sorry,,)

Meat slaughtered the same day and fresh vegetables, supplied the same day and sold out the same day, they say! I'm eating with total trust in the freshness~

Uhwa Gopchang side dishes: tokbokki, beef seaweed soup and raw liver

The best match for gopchang,, 💛 The tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) is sweet, spicy and chewy, so good~ (and you can get refills haha)

The umami of the beef seaweed soup,, 🤎 I want to dunk cold rice into it right now~ One sip of the broth and it already feels like a hangover cure(?)

If you ask, they'll also give you raw liver. Can you see how fresh it is,,,? On a previous visit they gave us tripe (cheonyeop) too, so it may differ day by day? Dunk it generously in the sesame oil dip~

What's in the Uhwa platter for two, and how it's grilled

Heart + brisket + gopchang + daechang (large intestine) + makchang, what a lineup,, the color of the meat is crazy~ Last visit we went with a gopchang and daechang combo, but today we wanted variety, so the platter~

It comes out pre-grilled once, and the staff grill it for you from start to finish.

The makchang got cut a little, so here's one more shot haha. The whole plate is full, a big portion.

A mini fan in the middle of summer

The staff checked whether we were hot and gave us a mini fan. We weren't actually hot, but it felt like an outdoor gopchang patio, and we enjoyed it cool in the fan's breeze.

Can't have gopchang without soju. I have work tomorrow, so I ordered just one bottle haha. For the record, I'm strictly a Chamisul (Isul) person.

Dip my favorite gopchang in the sauce and it's pure heaven~ The sweet-salty savory flavor is unreal. Keeps going down,,,

Extra makchang, and flying fish roe fried rice to finish

I added one portion of makchang too. Moist and tender, just perfect~ Even one portion was a lot, so I was full and left a little.

Then we stir-fried it all together into fried rice. Please, you absolutely have to get the fried rice,, It was so hot out that I also wanted the cold kimchi somyeon (thin wheat noodles), but I'm always too full to try it,, (hubby, eat it with me next time)

Pop the egg yolk and scoop it up~

Write a Naver receipt review and the flying fish roe fried rice is free~ Can't not do that, right? Haha

Scraped the pan to the bottom and ate until I was bursting~

Grab a candy on the way out to freshen your mouth~ Oh, they accept Onnuri vouchers? Even Mr. Baek (Paik Jong-won) approves of Uhwa Gopchang, thumbs up from me.

I'm touched by how thoughtful they are to even provide deodorizer spray~

Why I keep coming back

Every time I visit, I get the same quality and fresh gopchang, which I love T_T The staff are so kind that I feel treated like a guest from start to finish. The outdoor patio opens once the weather cools down, so if you're looking for a gopchang place in Dunsan-dong, I highly recommend Uhwa Gopchang~
