Weeknight jjukkumi dinner for two in Cheonan: Bulnaneun Jjukkumi

Bulnaneun Jjukkumi Main Branch is a jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) stir-fry restaurant on Handeul 2-ro in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan. On a weeknight visit with her older sister, the writer ordered the jjukkumi stir-fry with pot rice for two (13,000 won each) at the mild spice level, and it was not spicy at all — just gently savory with a real smoky wok flavor. Bouncy octopus, glossy pot rice and a finishing bowl of scorched-rice tea made for a filling dinner at Bulnaneun Jjukkumi.

Cheonan soft tofu beef soup restaurant, after-work dinner: Yukdaejang

Yukdaejang Cheonan Baekseok Branch is a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) restaurant on Handeul 2-ro in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, Chungnam. The writer and her older sister came for dinner after work and ordered sundubu yukgaejang (spicy beef soup with soft tofu) at 11,000 won and yangji seolleongtang (brisket ox bone soup) at 11,000 won, finding a fiery broth packed with glass noodles, scallion, egg and soft tofu next to a milky cauldron-simmered bone broth. Portions are generous and the side dishes are self-refill, making Yukdaejang a solid hangover-soup dinner in Baekseok-dong, Cheonan.

Long sausage bread at Steel Green Bakery, a four-story Cheonan café

Steel Green Bakery is a four-story bakery café on Cheonheung 4-gil in Seonggeo-eup, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan. On a solo weekday afternoon visit, the order was a green berry einspänner (7,800 won), a bagel sando (8,000 won), long sausage bread (6,000 won) and soboro bread (2,000 won), with a look around every level from the first floor to the fourth-floor rooftop. Coffee at Steel Green Bakery is on the pricey side, but the different seating on each floor, the rooftop view and the cream-packed bagel sando made the visit well worth it.
