Back at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel near Yangjae Station for a restorative eel meal
I was so happy with my last visit to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) near Yangjae Station that I went back for a pick-me-up meal. Lately I've had a lot of days where my body feels droopy and I have no energy, and on days like that, eel is the first thing that comes to mind. It's an eel place I'd happily recommend for eating out around Yangjae Station.

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is near the Bangbang intersection, between Yangjae Station and Gangnam Station. It uses both the 1st and 2nd floors, so it's quite big.
What is the atmosphere like at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel for a family meal?
A restaurant with a nice atmosphere for eating out

The 1st floor was already full that day, so we were guided up to the 2nd floor. No matter how good the food is, a messy, chaotic room drags down the meal, but even with lots of customers, Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel never feels frantic.

Maybe because of the big windows, the 2nd floor feels more open. The lighting isn't overly bright, with a soft mood, so it's good for a family meal or for bringing your parents. Above all, the owner and the ladies working there are really kind.

How much eel should two people order?
For the two of us, 1kg of salt-grilled eel is just right. The price is reasonable for an eel specialty restaurant, and considering how much eating out costs these days, it felt perfectly acceptable.
Free eel juice and side dishes at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel
A freebie that lifts your mood before the meal even starts

The first thing that caught my eye after sitting down was the complimentary eel juice. It's bitter, but it's supposed to be good for you, so I shut my eyes and downed it in one go! That was the moment it really felt like I'd come for a health boost.

The side dishes that go with the eel come out neatly arranged. There are vegetables and various accompaniments to cut the richness of the eel, so you don't get tired of it and can enjoy it to the end.

The charcoal is great too! That must be why the eel grills so well, right?
How does the salt-grilled eel taste? Pungcheon eel grilled by the staff
Eel never lets you down

Then the salt-grilled eel arrived. Plump, hefty eel, truly pungcheon (freshwater) eel. It passed on looks alone, glossy and shiny.

Eel grilled to a golden brown stirs up your appetite just by looking at it.

At Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, the staff grill the eel for you, very professionally.

Eel takes a while to cook through, so I needed some patience. It just looks so good, though...

I picked up a golden piece and tried it: moderately crisp outside, moist inside. The nutty flavor that spreads the moment it hits your mouth is so good. The soft texture eel is known for is there, and there was no fishy taste at all, just clean flavor.

Tip: cut the mushrooms lengthwise
Grill the mushroom and cut it lengthwise like this, and it keeps all its juices, so you get a really moist mushroom. Picked up a great tip... from now on I'll cut them this way!

Finishing the eel meal with a soup dish
Personally, after eel I always crave something with broth. It's like it resets your mouth after the eel. The soup wasn't heavy, yet it had a deep savory richness.

Was Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel near Yangjae Station still worth it on a second visit?
I went back to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel because of how good my last visit was, and it didn't let me down. Besides the eel itself, the kind service and comfortable atmosphere made it a satisfying time. If you're run down, low on energy, or need a meal out with your parents, I recommend this eel restaurant near Yangjae Station. Next time I crave a healthy meal, I'll probably go back.
