Wangsimni favorite Pujutgan raw pork: cauldron-lid pork belly and unlimited sides
This is Pujutgan (푸줏간생고기점) in Haengdang-dong, where I went recently. I absolutely love meat and go around trying pork belly places all the time, and I finally found one that's totally my style. You grill pork belly on a cauldron lid with aged kimchi, and if you order meat you get stews and noodles to finish for free. But if you think free means low quality, you are so wrong!!! The portions are generous and the hospitality is huge, and I was marveling the whole time I ate at this Wangsimni gem.
Where is Pujutgan and can you park?
Pujutgan is by Exit 10 of Wangsimni Station, and there's space in front of the restaurant, so you can park!
There's a space at the back that's great for company dinners, and a group, like a club or something, was actually having one! I went at 4 pm on a Sunday and it was packed, which surprised me a lot.. But Pujutgan really is perfect for a group dinner. You can eat as much stew and naengmyeon as you like, so it's a Wangsimni spot with amazing value.

The air conditioning is blasting and the weather is great, a perfect day for cauldron-lid pork belly. The grill is hot, but inside it's super cool.
Pujutgan menu prices and free side lineup
Every pork cut at Pujutgan is ₩20,000 per serving, and if you order meat for everyone in your group, the stews and finishing sides are unlimited. They sell both beef and pork, and today I went for the pork!

What are the cauldron-lid grill and basic table setting like?
Wow, what a huge cauldron lid! The surface is smooth and well oiled, and it holds its heat for a long time, so you can enjoy the meat right to the end 👍

The lettuce wraps and basic side dishes are neatly prepared with nothing unnecessary, which I like.
2 servings of raw pork belly and 1 of pork jowl: how is the meat quality?
What we ordered this day was 2 servings of raw pork belly and 1 of pork jowl. The moment it arrived I was like, why does the meat look so good 🥹 As a raw meat restaurant should, Pujutgan has really good main meat.
Nicely fermented kimchi comes out too, and you put it on the cauldron lid with the meat to grill it!

They grill all the meat for you, so it's sooo convenient 👍 The grill is hot, so the meat cooks perfectly. Besides meat, there are generous amounts of potato, onion and mushrooms.
Wow, look at the color and thickness of the meat, it's amazing 🥓 Mushrooms first, yum 🍄🟫 The potato and mushrooms are a real treat too.
The pork belly here is thick, but it also has a nice balance of lean meat and fat, which makes a great combination 👏 Personally, I most recommend the pork jowl!! The texture is so good and the quality is great. One serving is quite sizable too, so the price is great.

Does the staff grill from start to finish?
Yes, at Pujutgan they grill everything from start to finish ‼️ There are lots of staff, so even when busy we were well looked after. It was so comfortable.. sob. Meat that someone else grills is the tastiest in the world.

Pork jowl, yum 😋 It's delicious with just a light dip in salt. Pujutgan, the Wangsimni spot, made me feel that for a BBQ place to be popular, the main meat has to be good. Even as I write this, I want to go again, sob.

The best partner for pork belly is well-cooked kimchi! Once the kimchi was fully cooked too, the staff told us we could eat everything now and left.

A Wangsimni spot that was delicious on its own and delicious wrapped in lettuce 🥬 The meat was cooked just right too, golden pork belly with the juices sealed in.

Ta-da!!! I'm off alcohol right now, so we cheered with Zero Coke 🍻
How is the free doenjang stew at Pujutgan?
The free doenjang stew at Pujutgan was the dish that shocked me. I couldn't decide between kimchi stew and doenjang stew, then picked this one! It's packed with tofu, meat and vegetables, and the doenjang (soybean paste) is really delicious. After one bite I immediately ordered a bowl of rice.
It's not either-or between doenjang stew and kimchi stew; if you want kimchi stew too, you can order it! There were only two of us and I was afraid of leaving leftovers, so I settled for doenjang stew, but next time I'll come with more people and have the kimchi stew too.

How big are the free mulnaengmyeon and bibimnaengmyeon?
At Pujutgan we ordered one mulnaengmyeon and one bibimnaengmyeon. I thought it would be a small finishing-noodle portion, but it's the amount you'd get for ₩10,000 at a decent naengmyeon restaurant. The taste is amazing too. In summer, egg isn't served because of spoilage risk!

The mulnaeng is really cold and generous, topped with plenty of cucumber and ssambu (pickled radish). The best, please do try it!

The bibimnaeng has a not-spicy, savory, ridiculously tasty sauce! And, proper as can be, there's floating slush ice on the naengmyeon like this. Please make sure to have the naengmyeon too.
Is Pujutgan worth going back to?
For someone who cares about both taste and value, Pujutgan is honestly the most satisfying BBQ place I've been to. It was already famous as a Wangsimni favorite, and I fully understood why, and I think I'll be visiting often. I'll keep going until I've tried all the sides and all the meat, the best 👍
