Exterior of Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road in Hongdae

I go to Hongdae more often than you'd expect (I live in Sangbong and work in Pangyo, so it's basically a triangle commute to get there too, haha) and I noticed a new spot I hadn't seen before — turned out to be Goobne. Been a while since I had good Goobne, so I ran over there right away! Visited Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, a Hongdae favorite.

Where is Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road, and which station is closest?

Goobne Chicken Hongdae Red Road sits on a side street inside Hongdae Festival Street. It's about a 10-minute walk from Hongik Univ. Station (lines 2, Gyeongui-Jungang, and the Airport Railroad), Hapjeong Station (lines 2 and 6), or Sangsu Station (line 6). It's right near the big, hard-to-miss Goobne Playtown sign on Red Road, so it wasn't actually that hard to find.

Basement to first floor, with terrace seats for outdoor drinking

The store spans the basement to the first floor, and takeout customers pick up in the basement. The first floor was packed with tables — the place is huge and spacious, with front and back doors open on both sides, which kept it feeling really breezy.

Spacious first-floor interior with open front and back doors
Terrace tables with an outdoor-drinking atmosphere

There are tables set up on the terrace too, so you can really lean into that outdoor-drinking mood while eating chicken. We sat inside on the first floor, where a huge projector screen was playing girl group music videos, so the atmosphere was upbeat and fun.

What is the new pa-gireum tteokbokki chicken?

⭐Seoul Eomma⭐ Pa-gireum Tteokbokki Chicken, ₩24,000. A premium recipe from chef Woo Jeong-uk of Seoul Eomma! Sweet-and-spicy savory flavor with a subtle green onion aroma! A perfect match of chewy rice cake and moist oven-baked chicken!

Menu introduction for the Seoul Eomma-recipe pa-gireum tteokbokki chicken

The pa-gireum tteokbokki chicken is a new menu item created jointly by Goobne and chef Woo Jeong-uk of Seoul Eomma from Culinary Class Wars 2 — a Korean food master with 30 years of experience. It's a new combination of Superpan's signature Korean-beef-fat tteokbokki and Goobne's oven-roasted chicken.

Ordering the whole bone-in chicken for 24,000 won

Oven-roasted chicken with the deep flavor of green onion oil in the sauce, and juicy, tender meat as the main draw! You can order it as a whole bone-in bird or as wingettes and drumettes — I hadn't had a whole roasted chicken in a while, so I went with the bone-in version and dug in properly with two forks.

Generous serving of chewy rice cakes

The chewy rice cakes were piled in generously, giving great texture with a satisfying chew. Depending on your taste, you can add extra rice cake, snow cheese, or pa-tteok-chi sauce. Lets you enjoy even more varied flavors!

How does the pa-gireum tteokbokki chicken taste, and is it spicy?

The sauce on the pa-gireum tteokbokki chicken had a sweet-and-savory appeal that pretty much anyone would like, no love-it-or-hate-it about it. The color is super bright red, but it's not spicy — which made it even better! It's not aggressively hot, so the nuttiness of the green onion oil comes through nicely and the savory flavor just explodes in your mouth...

Interior of Goobne's clean, oven-roasted chicken meat

Goobne's signature clean, moist oven-roasted chicken paired with well-seasoned, chewy rice cakes makes eating chicken and rice cake together genuinely fun. If you like the chicken-and-tteokbokki combo, this is a match made in heaven — impossible not to love.
