Yeonsinnae tonkatsu: owner-trimmed loin set for two, Katsu Monster
In short
Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant near Exits 4 and 5 of Yeonsinnae Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. Visiting around 4 pm, the writer ordered the set for two at the kiosk: two portions of loin tonkatsu and one cold soba (chilled buckwheat noodles). The thick pork had no gamey smell even without sauce, and the batter was crispy. After watching the owner trim the meat himself during break time, the writer gives Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch five stars as a go-to Yeonsinnae tonkatsu spot.

I saw a photo of a seriously thick loin tonkatsu and hopped on the subway to Yeonsinnae for it. If it's a good restaurant, I'll go anywhere^^

Is Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch good for dining solo?

There are three tables for two, and the rest are bar seats where you can eat alone or sit cozily side by side with a friend. The table setting and the cutlery drawer underneath were neatly arranged, so the thoughtful touch of the female owner really showed.
A Yeonsinnae tonkatsu spot with nonstop delivery orders

I arrived for a meal around 4 pm, and the inside of Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch looked hectic with tonkatsu delivery and takeout orders. Delivery bikes kept heading out, and I could faintly hear delivery order alerts the whole time.
Some restaurants blast the order alert so loud it's chaotic, but true to a Yeonsinnae tonkatsu favorite, they keep the volume low, so eating in was comfortable. So thoughtful 👍

What's in the set for two? 2 portions of tonkatsu + 1 portion of cold soba
You order by kiosk at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch, and I picked the great-value set for two. It comes with two portions of tonkatsu and one portion of noodles. I chose the loin with just a little fat, and cold soba for the noodles.
The tonkatsu and the cold soba each came as a full single portion, so it's hearty and an absolute value champ of a menu!
Why the tonkatsu at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is so good
1. The meat quality is really good
The loin tonkatsu at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is delicious because the meat is delicious. It's not just the quality: the texture of the thick meat is the best. It has a satisfying chew, and a clean, mild flavor fills your whole mouth.

The quality and thickness of the meat are no joke. I tried one piece without dipping it in sauce, and because the meat is so good there was no gamey smell at all, and the meat itself tasted so good that I was shocked!!!
When you eat tonkatsu at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch, I strongly recommend tasting it as is, without dipping it in sauce.

2. The tonkatsu batter is crispy
The batter and how it's fried are top-notch. It's fried so perfectly that it brings out the flavor of the quality meat! The meat is mild and nutty, and the crunchy batter brings out the tonkatsu flavor a second time.

3. Special sauce and fresh wasabi make it a triple threat
The special tonkatsu sauce, neither too sweet nor too salty, comes with fresh wasabi. Dipping the tonkatsu in the sauce hit all three notes of tonkatsu flavor, so I got a real taste of what makes this a Yeonsinnae tonkatsu favorite haha

How were the cold soba and cabbage salad?
The cold soba at Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is a refreshing noodle dish that's great in summer. Both the noodles and the broth are tasty, and it's nice to slurp them down cold. I get hungry fast if I only eat cold soba, so being able to have it together with tonkatsu in the set for two is perfect for a big eater like me. haha

The thinly sliced cabbage salad was exactly the fine cut I like, and it went really well with the sesame dressing.
The owner trimming meat during break time

The owner of Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch trims the tonkatsu meat every day during break time. I watched as they cut off the fat just enough and prepped the thick cuts of meat one by one.
I thought, of course that's why the tonkatsu here is so good! With good ingredients prepared and cooked this carefully, the flood of delivery orders made total sense.
Verdict: do I recommend Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch?

Even the drinking water is barley tea, which went well with the tonkatsu. The ingredients are good and the taste is guaranteed, so it's a definite five stars~ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Katsu Monster Yeonsinnae Branch is a place I recommend for lunch or dinner in Yeonsinnae^^ This was a very honest review from someone who actually ate there!!!
