In short
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) gopchang restaurant on Ollimpik-ro 32-gil in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul. A writer who never enjoyed gopchang or makchang went on a Friday evening with a friend, ordered one portion each of hanwoo gopchang (small intestine), makchang and daechang (large intestine), and finished with kkakdugi garlic yangbap (fried rice with radish kimchi and garlic). The verdict: Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is fresh and generous enough that even people wary of offal can enjoy it without hesitation.

On a Friday evening, a friend recommended Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, a well-known restaurant in Bangi-dong. I don't usually eat offal cuts like gopchang (small intestine) or makchang (abomasum), so I went more in the spirit of a challenge than with high expectations. But after one visit, I completely understood why so many people come. It was a really satisfying meal.
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch: hours and parking
Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch (진성한우곱창 방이직영점) is at 19 Ollimpik-ro 32-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the first floor. It is open 13:00-23:00 Monday to Thursday (last order 23:00) and 13:00-24:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Parking is not available.
Friday evening wait and atmosphere
True to its reputation as a Bangi-dong favorite, the place was busy on Friday evening, and we waited a short while before getting in. Seeing other people waiting only made me more excited.

The interior is comfortable, with a natural old-school feel that makes it a great place for a drink.

It's lively but not overwhelming, so it suits meals with friends or a company dinner. There's also a self-service bar where you can grab whatever side dishes you need, which I liked.
One portion each of gopchang, makchang and daechang for two: how was the amount?

This time we ordered one portion each of beef gopchang, beef makchang and beef daechang (thick large intestine). For two people it was quite generous, and the grill covered in food looked great from the start. Trying several cuts at once also meant comparing their different textures and flavors.

Three kinds of kimchi, minari pickles and special garlic sauce
The basic side dishes were very satisfying too. The three house-made kimchis cut through the richness of the gopchang cleanly and were great alongside it.
The combination of minari (water dropwort) pickles and the special garlic sauce stood out in particular. Eating the rich gopchang with the pickles added a fragrant freshness, and dipping it in the garlic sauce brought out even more savory depth.

Can someone who avoids offal enjoy it?
The beef gopchang was crisp outside and rich inside, the makchang was chewy, and the daechang had a strong fatty flavor that still wasn't heavy. Watching the fat slowly render and the pieces turn golden on the grill made my appetite come alive.
The daechang had a deep, savory fat flavor, yet it wasn't overwhelming at all, so I kept reaching for more. Even I, who normally don't go for offal, enjoyed it without any hesitation, thanks to how fresh it was and how well it was prepared.

Cabbage, potato, bean sprouts and rice cakes grilled alongside
The cabbage, potato, bean sprouts and tteok (rice cakes) grilled together with the gopchang were a treat too. The vegetables and rice cakes soaked up the savory fat from the gopchang as they cooked, giving them a deeper flavor, and with the special sauce they tasted different again. With so many ingredients, I never got tired of it right to the end.

I think it's a good place both for people who already love gopchang and for people like me who rarely eat offal. Above all, the good ingredients came in generous amounts, and being able to enjoy several cuts at once made the meal even better.

A closing side dish: kkakdugi garlic yangbap
The kkakdugi garlic yangbap (a rice dish with diced radish kimchi, beef tripe and pickled garlic) we ordered as a side was also very satisfying. The crunchy kkakdugi, mild tripe and pickled garlic came together well, with great texture and flavor. It was the perfect finish after fully enjoying the main dishes, and I scraped up every last spoonful.
Overall verdict: if you want good-value beef gopchang
With eating-out prices so high these days, the big plus of Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is that both the amount and the taste satisfy. So I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for good-value beef gopchang. Quality hanwoo (Korean beef) offal at a reasonable price made it very worthwhile, and my friend and I left full.
I was happy with the taste, the atmosphere and the service on this visit. Having been myself, I can see why so many people recommend it as a Bangi-dong favorite, and if you want proper Bangi-dong beef gopchang, it's worth a visit at least once. With such generous portions and great flavor, the Korean phrase for it, a place that "piles it on," fits the name well.
I'd go back whenever I want a Bangi-dong favorite or proper Bangi-dong beef gopchang, and I can confidently recommend it if you're after a place that delivers both taste and quantity. Fresh beef gopchang and a variety of offal cuts in generous amounts, plus the charm of good-value gopchang: a very satisfying meal.👍
