Wangsimni Korean BBQ: yuzu chili & garlic olive sauces, Yukseong
In short
Yukseong is a Korean BBQ restaurant serving cross-aged meat on Muhakbong-gil in Wangsimni, Seongdong, Seoul. In Yukseong's tiger-themed dining room with full glass walls, staff grilled the Beom Set (tosisal skirt cut and jinmoksal pork neck, 480g, 53,000 won) at the table, served with yuzu chili and garlic olive sauces and a white wine welcome drink. Yukseong delivered on atmosphere, taste and service, and is the first Korean BBQ spot in Wangsimni that comes to mind.

What is Yukseong, the Korean BBQ restaurant in Wangsimni?
Yukseong (육성) is an aged-meat Korean BBQ restaurant on Muhakbong-gil in Wangsimni, known for its tiger-themed interior and cross-aged meat. When you hunt for a good BBQ place in Seoul, you end up caring about atmosphere and service as much as taste, and Yukseong, which I visited recently, ticked every one of those boxes.
The tiger-themed interior caught my eye from the moment I walked in. It feels strong and lucky at the same time, so I was in a good mood for the whole meal.
The biggest strength of Yukseong was the meat, of course. They say they cross-age quality meat to bring out its natural flavor. It isn't just aging for the sake of it: they bring out the best texture and flavor for each cut, which impressed me.

What is the atmosphere like inside Yukseong?

The interior has well-judged lighting, great for a proper meal and just as good for a drink or two. The glass wall filling one side of the room stood out most. It feels open rather than stuffy, so I could relax more. Among Wangsimni BBQ places, I was quite happy with the space.

Yukseong menu and Beom Set price

- Beom Set (pork neck + beef skirt) 480g: ₩53,000
- Bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), BBQ-restaurant style: ₩5,500
How was the tosisal (skirt cut) in the Beom Set?
What we ordered that day was Yukseong's Beom Set (범세트), made up of beef skirt steak (tosisal, 토시살) and thick pork neck (jinmoksal, 진목살). Personally, the skirt steak impressed me most. I hadn't eaten that cut often, but this completely changed my mind. It was tender, and the juices burst out more the longer I chewed. It was one of the most memorable cuts I've had. I finally understood why so many people ask for it.

Side dish: mu saengchae (spicy radish salad)
The basic side dishes were quite good too. I especially remember the mu saengchae (seasoned shredded radish). They say it's made fresh every day, and the crunch and cool, refreshing taste worked well with the meat. It cut through the richness of the meat so cleanly that I kept reaching for it.

Was the jinmoksal (pork neck) tender too?
The pork neck that came with the Beom Set was excellent as well. The owner grills it for you, so you get it at its best. There was none of the toughness pork neck can have; it was tender yet chewy. Adding the sauces they serve lifted the flavor even more, and I was very satisfied.

Do the staff grill the meat for you at Yukseong?
Yes, the staff grill the meat for you at Yukseong, and that was honestly the best part. Even great meat tastes different depending on how it's grilled, and with an expert grilling it at the perfect moment, I could just focus on eating. The owner was also very kind, so even as first-timers we enjoyed a relaxed meal.

Pairing the yuzu chili and garlic olive sauces
Yukseong serves a yuzu chili sauce and a garlic olive sauce together, and the pair is unusual, each with a clear personality. The zesty, kicky yuzu chili sauce went well with the beef, while the nutty, deep garlic olive sauce was especially good with the pork. Switching sauces depending on the meat was fun and made the meal even better.
Smoky aroma from corn fuel
Another special thing at Yukseong is that it uses eco-friendly corn fuel. Besides being kind to the environment, a subtle smoky aroma seeps naturally into the meat, giving it deeper flavor. Even the grilling stage felt different from an ordinary BBQ restaurant.

And to finish, bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) hit the spot too. Ta-da!!
Yukseong welcome drink and highlights
Yukseong offers a welcome drink before the meal, and that was nice too. We chose a chilled white wine, which was perfect as an aperitif. It whetted the appetite before the meat and made us look forward to the meal even more. You can feel the care put into running the place in each of these small touches.

- Free corkage
- Welcome drink of your choice: wine, soju or beer
- Aged meat grilled for you, and grilled well
- Quality meat with a nice corn-smoke aroma
- Kind owner
- Great value for a BBQ restaurant
Verdict: Yukseong, a cross-aged meat Korean BBQ in Wangsimni
Yukseong in Wangsimni lacked nothing in atmosphere, taste or service. If you want to taste what aged meat is really about, I'd recommend visiting at least once. It's good for special days and for ordinary days when you're craving good meat. It was such a satisfying meal that it will be the first place I think of next time I look for BBQ in Wangsimni. 💕
