Jeju Korean restaurant for baby-friendly grilled fish: Hwadeogeuro Gan
In short
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch is a Korean restaurant near Iho Tewoo Beach in Jeju. We enjoyed grilled mackerel and atka mackerel with our baby, ocean views, high chairs, and a self-service side-dish bar. Verdict: a great place to compare two crisp yet moist grilled fish dishes.

A delicious new grilled-fish spot has opened near Iho Tewoo Beach by Jeju Airport! We visited Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang with our baby and enjoyed the ocean view.

Having grilled fish with a baby at Jeju’s Iho Tewoo Beach
What is the first menu that comes to mind on a Jeju trip?! Grilled fish, perhaps?? Near Jeju Airport, at Iho Tewoo Beach, there is the newly opened Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch.

While wondering where to go with the baby, I thought it might be better to start with grilled fish rather than grilling Jeju black pork right away, so we ended up at the new spot Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang.

When we visited in the early evening, half the seats were already taken. About half of those diners were foreigners too—the kind of delicious grilled fish that everyone can enjoy.

It is on the first floor, but it is practically at second-floor height, so the view outside the windows was wonderful. A stone wall on one side, a blue sea on the other. Could there be a better view than this~!

Using the self-service side-dish bar and high chairs
The self-service bar was stocked with side dishes, and we could even fry eggs. Since our baby was eating with us too, it was easy to take only the side dishes we wanted.
When eating Korean food, I tend not to get side-dish refills because it feels like a hassle, but the self-service bar here made it easy. Every side dish was tasty, so I went back for refills twice~!

Everything was hygienically covered, and instead of being made all at once, it was replenished fresh as soon as it ran low.

Mackerel and atka mackerel grilled-fish set meals
- Grilled fish set meals: mackerel / atka mackerel / Spanish mackerel / Jeju hairtail
- Other set meals: fish roe and milt soup / spicy pork / tteokgalbi / braised hairtail with radish

Oven-grilled mackerel and atka mackerel set meals. We ordered both mackerel and atka mackerel, the grilled-fish classics. Each table set came with four side dishes and soup.

Crisp, not-too-salty grilled mackerel
Grilled mackerel: plump mackerel cooked in the oven with just the right amount of salt, enough to render the oil beautifully! We easily picked out the bones and started eating in earnest.

The skin was crisp while the flesh inside stayed moist. This is that famous crisp-outside, tender-inside style of grilled mackerel. Roasting it in the oven made it wonderfully nutty.

Atka mackerel that was easy to debone
Grilled atka mackerel: the snowy-white flesh was nicely cooked without any fishy smell. It was easier than expected to pick out the bones, haha. Its skin had a little more savoriness than the grilled mackerel, which made comparing them especially fun.

It was amazing how distinct the grain of the flesh remained. Ordering it together with the grilled mackerel made it impossible to easily pick a winner, since each had such a different flavor style! Our baby even finished a whole bowl of rice..!
How did the foreign diners find out about this tasty little gem and get here before us..?!

Iho Tewoo Beach views and oven-grilled fish
It would be a shame to leave Jeju without eating grilled fish, right? If you are looking for Korean food near Jeju Airport, try delicious fish grilled in an oven~ The Iho Tewoo Beach view is a bonus!

The grilled fish comes out delicious, light, and without any heaviness, with only the oil rendered away in the oven~ We enjoyed crisp yet moist grilled fish—the kind that is hard to make at home—while looking out at Jeju’s blue sea.
