Spicy food is honestly my favorite kind of food out of everything!! 🌶️ I love anything intense, and I'm the type of person who gets a craving the second I see a photo or video of spicy food lol
On this Jecheon trip, I was craving spicy food so badly that I went to Maeun Gieok (매운기억), a pub in Jecheon! It's a great spot near Jecheon Terminal for spicy bar food and a drink — a real Jecheon Terminal favorite. My boyfriend and I both love spicy food, so we were super happy 💓

Maeun Gieok, a spicy-food pub in downtown Jecheon
Maeun Gieok is right across from Seongkyul Church, so it wasn't hard to find! I was looking for good places to eat in downtown Jecheon and just really craving something spicy that day 🌶️🔥 So I searched for somewhere good for spicy food and a drink, and that's how I ended up at Maeun Gieok.
The inside had a relaxed pojangmacha (street-tent pub) vibe, perfect for a comfortable meal and a drink!
What is on the Maeun Gieok signature menu?
Maeun Gieok's signature dishes are the spicy marinated crab and the handmade soupy chicken feet 🌶️
Even the name feels spicy, but they don't only serve spicy dishes.. There are non-spicy options for people who can't handle heat, so if you're spice-sensitive, definitely check the menu 🤭
Since we wanted to really go for it with the heat that day, we ordered the signature dish, the spicy marinated crab 🦀
Ordering the 38,000-won spicy crab at level 2 nuclear-spicy
We ordered the spicy marinated crab (₩38,000) without a second thought! ! ! You can choose between spicy and nuclear-spicy, and of course I went for level 2 nuclear-spicy 🌶️ I flexed a little too much... wasn't I about to end up guzzling water?? 🥲 (I ended up guzzling water)
We also ordered salt gimbap (seaweed rice roll) for ₩2,500! It seemed like it would go well with the spicy marinated crab, so we added it on.
How spicy is Maeun Gieok's marinated crab?
The basic side dishes came out looking like this 🤍
After eating spicy food, this corn kernel side was surprisingly the thing that calmed down my heat 🌽🔥 And then the spicy marinated crab arrived — the visual alone made my mouth water 🦀
There was a generous amount of crab, and most importantly the crab meat was packed in so well — I loved that!
With spicy marinated crab, the sauce is really what matters — and here, the sauce is truly, truly amazing.. ✨ It's spicy but I kept reaching for more, that addictive kind of taste — it was so hot I could barely stand it, but I couldn't stop.. 🥺
But it was genuinely spicy.. as spicy as the hottest Buldak Bokkeummyeon (spicy fire noodles).. 😖 My boyfriend usually can't handle spice as well as me, but somehow he was eating it up? I guess it was just that good — he really dug in.. He kept saying, hissing through the heat, that it was delicious and truly the best crab dish, and he ate a ton! !

We also tried it with the salt gimbap, and the salt gimbap was a nice touch too.. so, so good 💓 Dipping it right into the sauce makes it even tastier :) If you're looking for spicy food in Jecheon or specifically spicy marinated crab, you have to go here 🌶️🌶️
Is Maeun Gieok worth a late night in Jecheon?
My boyfriend and I ate so well and were so happy 🌶️💓 Just be careful, because once you taste it, you might get addicted 🥲 The owner also had such a warm, friendly presence, so we left in a great mood!
If you're looking for good food in downtown Jecheon and you especially love spicy food, I think this place is definitely worth a visit 🙌🏻 I'd also recommend it to anyone near Jecheon Terminal looking for good bar food and a drink ✨ And best of all, you can choose your own spice level, so you can challenge yourself to whatever suits your taste!
