Sokcho mulhoe restaurant: sea cucumber mulhoe with Mom, Hwanggeum
In short
Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and raw fish restaurant at the entrance of Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, where live fish and seafood are prepared in-house. A Sokcho local dined in with a sea cucumber-loving mom, sharing two servings of the Hwanggeum sea cucumber mulhoe (25,000 won) with chewy sea cucumber and a sweet-and-sour broth with a spicy finish, then added buckwheat noodles and drank the broth to the last drop. For tangy sea cucumber mulhoe at Sokcho Jungang Market, Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip is a satisfying choice.

Inside Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip

It seems like the restaurant opened not long ago, because the inside was super clean, spacious and comfortable!
Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip menu and prices
The popular items are the mulhoe dishes: Hwanggeum mulhoe, abalone mulhoe, sea cucumber mulhoe, haebok (seafood and abalone) mulhoe and wild squid mulhoe. There are also meal dishes, raw fish, seafood and side dishes, and the spicy fish stew is extra when you order raw fish.

The fish tank by the outside entrance was also kept nice and clean! It holds fish, squid, sea cucumber, abalone and more. Squid is in season right now, and squid mulhoe is sold at market price too :)

I took one look at those plump sea cucumbers and made up my mind! So what we ordered was the sea cucumber mulhoe, hahaha
Does Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip do takeout?
Yes, every item on the menu can be taken away. Raw fish, mulhoe and meal dishes are all available for both dining in and takeout.

The owner was preparing fresh sea cucumber the moment we ordered!
Hwanggeum sea cucumber mulhoe for 25,000 won: how did it taste?
The Hwanggeum sea cucumber mulhoe costs ₩25,000. My mom and I are both sea cucumber lovers ❤️ so we ordered two servings of it!

Buckwheat noodles come with the meal as standard, while steamed rice costs extra.

The mulhoe is generously topped with fresh raw fish, sea cucumber and vegetables :) Buckwheat noodles and side dishes come as standard.

The thinly sliced sea cucumber was chewy and springy, so good 👍 Eating it in this hot weather made it taste even better because it's so refreshing. The sweet-and-sour, clean broth and the generous amount of fresh fish won me over completely 😄🫶 Honestly... I think this place is tastier than Sokcho's famous top-three mulhoe restaurants,, If you've tried them, you'll definitely feel the difference! 😄😅

Tangy mulhoe broth that won over a Sokcho local
What I liked most about the sea cucumber mulhoe here was the tangy broth. It was exactly the style of mulhoe broth I love. The spicy kick at the end, together with the sourness, is still on my mind a week after eating it 🤤🤤
My own aunt runs a raw fish restaurant that is the number one mulhoe spot in Sokcho and Goseong... and this tasted just like the mulhoe broth my aunt makes, which amazed me 😀😃
When do you add the buckwheat noodles to mulhoe?
For the mulhoe here, fish out the solids and eat them first, then add the complimentary buckwheat noodles about halfway through and eat them together 😋

The noodles are chewier than thin wheat noodles and go well with the broth. Think of it as eating buckwheat soba (?) mulhoe, haha

It really tasted like a copy-paste of my aunt's mulhoe broth, so I scooped up every last drop 🤣😂😅 hahahahaha I couldn't put my spoon down until it was all gone,,,,
If you're looking for a truly delicious mulhoe place at Sokcho Jungang Market, I really recommend stopping by Hwanggeum Mulhoe for a cold bowl! A Sokcho local recommends it with confidence ❤️
