Sokcho market chicken shop takeout for six friends: Seomin Gapbu

This is Sijang Dakjip, a Sokcho Jungang Market restaurant I visited on this trip to Sokcho! When you're in Sokcho, packing up market food is a must, right? There are so many great dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) spots in Sokcho, but instead of the famous one everyone knows, I went to Sijang Dakjip! I packed up their dakgangjeong along with squid sundae — this post is about Sijang Dakjip, a place packed with all kinds of food: fried snacks, jeon (savory pancakes), squid sundae, dakgangjeong, and more!

Parking at Sokcho Jungang Market and where Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip is

For parking near Sijang Dakjip, I used the Sokcho Jungang Market parking lot. Make sure to grab a parking voucher after placing your takeout order — you get a discount! Maybe because it was peak season, parking was a bit tough, but we split up the work properly: the guys parked the car while the girls went to pack up the food, haha.

The place I visited is Sijang Dakjip in Sokcho Jungang Market! It's run together with Seomin Gapbu Ttokinae Twigim, so it's the perfect spot to pack up other food at the same time! If you come in from the Hanaro Mart side in the center, it's a bit far; coming in from the Saemaul Geumgo side is closer. It's at the very end of the alley, so since we came in from the Hanaro Mart side, we walked for quite a while, ugh.

How long is the wait on a weekday evening?

Even on a weekday evening, Sijang Dakjip was so crowded — from waiting, to ordering, to actually getting the takeout, wow. I had no idea it would be this busy, haha. There's an inside hall so you can eat there too, and the staff guided the takeout waiting line really well, with clear signage too, so waiting wasn't much of a hassle at all!

While waiting, I checked out the food on display and watched them making squid sundae — the smell was honestly insane, haha. The sikhye (sweet rice punch) and other drinks looked so good too! Watching the staff work while we waited meant we ordered and packed up in no time! They also handed out a menu while we waited, plus there was a big board-style menu to look at, which was nice.

What six friends ordered: garlic dakgangjeong 24,000 won and squid nurungji sundae 15,000 won

We ordered 2 squid nurungji sundae at ₩15,000 each and 1 garlic dakgangjeong at ₩24,000!

The prices were reasonable, and I noticed there were set combos too, so I seriously considered getting fried snacks as well, but we had other things to pack up, so I passed!

We got garlic dakgangjeong from Sijang Dakjip and squid sundae from Seomin Gapbu Ttokinae Twigim! The smell was insane... everyone was hungry riding in the car, haha, and the smell of the delicious dakgangjeong and squid sundae just made everyone go 'I'm so hungry, I'm so hungry,' haha.

Squid nurungji sundae: the friends' number-one pick

Squid sundae (squid stuffed with rice) is a must when you travel to Sokcho, everyone... don't wait in line to eat it somewhere else, just pack it up here. It's the squid sundae I always pack up when I get Sokcho travel food, and it's genuinely delicious, haha. My friends said squid sundae was their number-one pick out of everything they ate in Sokcho that day.

Garlic dakgangjeong: how spicy it is and how much you get

Now for the main event — dakgangjeong. There are really so many great dakgangjeong spots in Sokcho, but for me, Sijang Dakjip's dakgangjeong is the best, ugh! There were two options, original and spicy, and even the spicy one wasn't very spicy! If you like spicy food, I'd definitely recommend the spicy version. Since it's garlic dakgangjeong, there are whole garlic cloves mixed in, and the portion is huge, haha. There were six of us and we ordered a bunch of stuff, but we still had leftover dakgangjeong to take home. We enjoyed it again for dinner at home!

So generous, right? Standing out among it all is the dakgangjeong from Sijang Dakjip, a top Sokcho Jungang Market dakgangjeong spot! If you're looking for a Sokcho Jungang Market restaurant or a Sokcho dakgangjeong spot, I recommend Sijang Dakjip along with Seomin Gapbu Ttokinae Twigim :) There are really so many great Sokcho dakgangjeong spots~~~ but for me, Sijang Dakjip is number one!!!!
