Dongtan shabu-shabu with vegetable choice and spicy broth: Deungchon

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu kalguksu restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Green Zone at Gran Passage in Dongtan, Hwaseong. The set for two came with spicy broth chosen from three options, mushrooms and minari, 180g of shabu beef, and a course that continued into kalguksu (hand-cut noodles) and fried rice, with a vegetable option picked at the time of ordering. With 2 hours of free parking and generous kimchi refills, Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is an easy pick in Dongtan on a day you want a spicy broth meal.

Seongsan, Jeju restaurant with sea urchin seaweed soup: Jejurowoon

Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a galchi-jorim (braised hairtail) set restaurant on Sinyang-ro in Seongsan, Jeju. Visiting with a 4-year-old, the writer ordered the A set (₩24,000 per person, minimum two orders) and chose sea urchin seaweed soup over the seafood hot pot, which came with braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, glutinous stone pot rice and soy crab; the toddler, who had not eaten all day, poured the soup over rice and finished a whole bowl. Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon also sells soy crab at ₩40,000 per container with shipping available, making it a Seongsan restaurant worth a second visit.
