Siheung Korean BBQ after a summer Mulwang Lake drive: Bulhyangjip

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch (불향집 물왕호수본점) is a coal-briquette grill meat restaurant beside Mulwang Reservoir in Siheung, Gyeonggi. After a midsummer August drive around Mulwang Lake, this visit wrapped briquette-grilled pajeon bulgogi (bulgogi with green onions) together with icy bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles, 9,000 won), then added briquette gochujang bulgogi as a second round. With a free private parking lot behind the building and a self-serve side dish bar, Bulhyangjip made a generous meal stop on a summer drive.

How's everyone holding up in this August heat? (It's SO hot ㅠㅠ)

Mulwang Lake is famous as one of Gyeonggi's prettiest cherry blossom spots in spring, with cherry trees lining the reservoir and the lakeside walking path in full bloom. Visiting in August summer instead, the lush green trees offered a different kind of drive charm, with plenty of shade!

Today's post is about a visit to Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch, a Siheung meat restaurant that gave us a proper hit of deep charcoal smoky flavor after our Mulwang Lake visit. From charcoal pajeon bulgogi piled high with green onion shreds to sweet-and-tangy bibim guksu that really wakes up your summer appetite — let's get into this charming Mulwang Reservoir restaurant review.

Entrance, parking, and dogs at Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch has a large private parking lot behind the building, so parking is free. Arriving at the restaurant, the green bushes, sunlit building, and cozy wood-toned entrance make quite an impression. The approach is neatly laid with white gravel, giving off a tidy, pleasant feel right from the entrance!

For parking, you just use the large open lot right behind the restaurant, so there's no worry about parking even at peak times. On one side of the restaurant, piles of used charcoal briquettes were stacked up — a nice sign that this place really uses real charcoal fire, which got me excited for the grilled dishes.

[Bulhyangjip dog policy] If you bring a stroller or carrier bag, pets are allowed in designated seats. (Large and restricted breeds may not be allowed, so it's recommended to check in advance!)

Inside the restaurant: group room and self-serve side dish bar

Stepping inside Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch, cool AC air greets you, and the interior is clean and spaciously arranged. There's also a floor-seated group room with a view through a full window, which seems great for a Mulwang Lake meat restaurant for family meals or small gatherings.

Even the basic side dishes came out neatly arranged on a tray, one by one — it looked clean and thoughtfully presented! If you run out, you can freely grab more from the self-serve bar in the center of the restaurant. The variety of fresh-looking side dishes was both pretty and satisfying.

Menu lineup and ordering tips

Bulhyangjip's menu is built around smoky charcoal-grilled mains like pajeon bulgogi (green onion bulgogi), gochujang bulgogi, and charcoal-seared pork belly, alongside solid sides like bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), and steamed egg.

How's the charcoal pajeon bulgogi?

The signature dish we ordered, 'smoky charcoal pajeon bulgogi,' arrived at the table! Since it's fully cooked on the kitchen's charcoal fire, at the table it just stays gently warm and all you have to do is eat comfortably.

Giving the fresh green onion shreds and bulgogi a light flip on the plate lets the smoky charcoal flavor mingle with the green onion aroma, really waking up the appetite. Dipping a tender piece of bulgogi in the sauce and eating it with the green onion shreds, the deep umami unique to charcoal grilling spread through my whole mouth! Living up to its reputation as a busy Siheung meat restaurant, it was genuinely delicious!!

Summer calls for bibim guksu wrapped with bulgogi

Here's the 'Bulhyangjip bibim guksu' that really shines when eaten alongside meat on a summer day! Thanks to vegetable broth fermented for 14 days, the icy, slushy broth is intensely sweet-and-tangy with deep umami.

Wrapping the springy noodles around a piece of smoky bulgogi and popping it all in one bite gives you an impressive combo — the noodles' spiciness meeting the meat's savoriness, genuinely gasp-worthy.

Round two: charcoal gochujang bulgogi

The first order was so delicious I couldn't resist ordering the gochujang bulgogi too, as a second round. The 'smoky charcoal gochujang bulgogi' also had spiciness soaked in moistly throughout, and I polished off a whole bowl of rice with it, no problem.

Self-serve coffee bar and overall verdict

After a satisfying meal, near the exit there's a clean self-serve bar with a coffee bean machine and a milk coffee machine. The counter even had mint candies and dental floss for freshening up afterward — a nice touch showing the owner's thoughtfulness!

Enjoying a summer drive and getting the full deep flavor of charcoal grilling — that's Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch! If you're looking for a solid Mulwang Reservoir meat restaurant, I highly recommend stopping by ❤️
