Olympic Park monkfish stew for a late anniversary dinner: Ttoksuni

In short

Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is a restaurant specializing in agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) on Wiryeseong-daero in Songpa, Seoul, near Olympic Park and Hanseongbaekje Station. A couple arrived at 8:30pm on their wedding anniversary and ordered the Ttoksuni Agujjim for 2 (medium) at the default Shin Ramyun spice level, and found plenty of monkfish meat with no bones from start to finish. Ttoksuni Agujjim makes a satisfying late dinner even within an hour, and it is a monkfish stew restaurant worth recommending to go with drinks too.

Why monkfish stew for our wedding anniversary?

Signature spicy monkfish stew at Ttoksuni Jamsil Direct Branch

Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch (똑순이아구찜 잠실 직영점) is a monkfish stew restaurant near Olympic Park where we had our wedding anniversary dinner. The weather had turned chilly, and I was craving something spicy, the kind of dish that also works great as a drinking snack, so agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) came to mind. It happened to be our anniversary, and we didn't want to let it pass without doing something... and what comes to mind is monkfish stew?! Haha, we're officially a middle-aged couple, lol. Still, it was delicious and we were really satisfied with Ttoksuni Jamsil Direct Branch :)

Do check the break time. We went for a late dinner at 8:30pm, and they told us we'd need to be out by 9:30, so we said okay~ Since we had the car and couldn't drink, we finished eating around 9:10, haha.

Parking at Ttoksuni: ₩2,000 valet

For parking at Ttoksuni Jamsil Direct Branch, you can use paid street parking on the main road out front, or go around to the back of the building, where valet is available for ₩2,000. The main road had no spots, and it was only ₩2,000, so we went with the valet~ Parking around Bangi is always hell, so it was nice to park easily for ₩2,000 ^^

Lunch specials near Olympic Park

For lunch specials, Ttoksuni Jamsil Direct Branch has deep, refreshing monkfish soup, a stir-fried webfoot octopus set, Daegu cod clear soup and more. It seems great for lunch for office workers nearby, academy teachers, and people visiting Olympic Park. With the weather this chilly, it's exactly soup weather, and the monkfish soup and Daegu cod soup sound so tempting, right?! Haha

Ttoksuni's signature items are the 2-person monkfish stew at ₩48,000 and the fresh boiled monkfish (medium) at ₩52,000, and there's a wide range of monkfish stew dishes, like the special seafood version and the aged kimchi version. I had no idea you could eat monkfish stew in so many ways, haha.

I was curious about the fresh boiled monkfish, which they say is gently cooked to keep a chewy, clean texture. From the photo, it isn't spicy, so it looked good for anyone who wants to enjoy monkfish mild and clean. There are also set menus, Silsok-sang / Juan-sang / Janchi-sang, that are good as drinking snacks, so I'd recommend them to anyone eating with alcohol~!

It was our first visit and we wanted something spicy, so we ordered the best-selling monkfish stew at the default (Shin Ramyun) spice level. I liked that the spice level is selectable!!

Nibbling away at the neat little side dishes. That young radish kimchi (yeolmu-kimchi) is so good!!!! The salad is fresh and tangy too~

Seaweed soup served as a basic side at Ttoksuni

The seaweed soup (miyeok-guk) that comes as a basic side goes really well with spicy monkfish stew, and it was rich and tasty :)

Ttoksuni 2-person medium, ₩48,000: how much meat?

The 2-person medium monkfish stew is ₩48,000 and is Ttoksuni's number one popular dish!! What's on top of the stew... my husband says it's the monkfish's mouth? lips?? but I think it's better to just eat it without knowing, lol. Something with a chewy bite.. hahaha

I'd read reviews saying there's a lot of meat, and wow, there really was~~ I've seen so many disappointing monkfish stews where there's nothing to eat except bean sprouts, but Ttoksuni near Olympic Park seems serious about its monkfish!! The meat was plump and springy, and I thought, so this is what monkfish stew is supposed to be. And maybe they'd deboned it, because there were no bones the whole time we ate. Amazing

How spicy is the Shin Ramyun level?

The default Shin Ramyun spice level at Ttoksuni isn't overly harsh, just deliciously spicy, which was perfect! Dipping it in the sauce makes it even better ♥

With a cold beer or soju this would be an unbeatable snack. I felt sorry for my alcohol-free life that night, it was so good, this Olympic Park monkfish stew. Highly recommended as a meal or a drinking snack ^^ And the plum tea and puffed rice snack you have on your way out after the meal are a treat too ♥
