Daegu's must-eat food? Mungtigi (Daegu-style raw beef), of course! I love raw beef in general, so I often go out for mungtigi. But there was always one thing that left me a little disappointed: raw beef is delicious, yet I never quite felt full afterward.
This time, though, the place I visited was different! It has a wide variety of raw beef, and the side dishes were seriously generous. They tasted good too, every single one, so I went home full. haha Today's Daegu mungtigi restaurant is Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch (출근길생고기 대구종로점)!

What kinds of mungtigi does Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno serve?
The raw beef here comes in four kinds: Gyeongsang-style mungtigi, Jeolla-style mungtigi, jeongak mungtigi, and brisket sashimi. What I liked is exactly this variety. Some mungtigi places only sell one kind, right?

Here, though, you get choices. The four main types are below.
- Gyeongsang-style mungtigi
- Jeolla-style mungtigi
- Jeongak mungtigi
- Brisket sashimi
Not all mungtigi tastes the same, after all.

The chew and the richness change depending on the cut and how it's prepared. Gyeongsang-style mungtigi is known for a light, springy texture, while Jeolla-style mungtigi has a nutty richness and a chewy bite.

Can you order Gyeongsang-style and Jeolla-style mungtigi half and half?
Yes! If you can't decide between Gyeongsang-style and Jeolla-style, you can order them half and half. Getting two different flavors at once is a setup I really liked. Everyone can pick the raw beef they like, so it works well for a group too, right? If menu choice matters to you when looking for a Daegu mungtigi restaurant, you'll probably be happy here.
How generous are the side dishes at Chulgeungil Saenggogi?
As soon as you sit down at Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno, the table fills up with side dishes like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), tofu with kimchi, and gimbap (seaweed rice rolls). Honestly, the side dishes surprised me as much as the raw beef did.

When the side dishes came out, there were so many kinds! 😮 Some raw beef places only give you a few simple extras, right? Here the whole table gets filled. Tteokbokki, tofu with kimchi, gimbap and more came together, and picking through them was fun.

Best of all, the side dishes were all good! However many kinds there are, you won't touch them if they taste bad. But here my chopsticks kept moving as I picked at this and that. haha Even before the raw beef arrived, the side dishes were a lot of fun.

If you're having a drink, this kind of spread will be even more welcome. Instead of eating only raw beef, mixing in other dishes along the way kept me from getting tired of it. I could see why this is a Daegu mungtigi restaurant worth recommending.
Are liver and tripe refills available?
At Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno you can order more side dishes, and liver and tripe (cheonyeop) can be refilled too. And that's not all. If you like raw beef, you probably like liver and tripe as well, and being able to get more when you want it was really satisfying.
When I eat mungtigi, I always feel a little unsatisfied afterward. I enjoyed it for sure, but it felt more like eating drinking snacks than a meal. Chulgeungil Saenggogi was different. The side dishes are so generous that I could eat my fill along with the raw beef.

This is a really big plus. You can enjoy the mungtigi as mungtigi and add a variety of side dishes too. Before you know it, you're quietly full. I think it's an especially welcome setup for anyone who found the portions a bit small.
Is Chulgeungil Saenggogi a good raw beef spot for drinks in Jongno, Daegu? 🍻
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno is tidy inside and has a wide range of side dishes, so it was a good spot for drinks with friends. Jongno in Daegu has lots of bars, so it's a neighborhood that suits meeting friends or having a drink after work. Chulgeungil Saenggogi fits that kind of evening well.

The interior is neat, so it was comfortable to sit and eat. And above all, there's such a variety of snacks! A piece of mungtigi, then a side dish here and there, and it works nicely as drinking food.
I think generous side dishes are a big advantage at a drinking table. When you're drinking, you start craving something different now and then. Here, many dishes come out from the start, so you can enjoy a varied table. It seemed like a good place for a casual drink with friends or when a bigger group wants raw beef. If you're looking for a Daegu mungtigi restaurant with a well-rounded set of snacks, keep this one in mind.
Can you finish the meal with ramyeon or udon?
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno has ramyeon or udon (thick wheat noodles) to finish with. Even after enjoying raw beef, don't you sometimes crave broth or noodles at the end? Especially if you've been drinking, you want to end with something warm.
While eating raw beef, I sometimes crave carbs at the end. Here you don't need to go somewhere else; you can wrap up simply right there, which is nice.

The side dishes alone are filling, but if you want a little more, a noodle dish works too, right? From raw beef to a variety of side dishes to a final meal! I really liked that it can all be done in one place. 😊
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Jongno: the verdict
Chulgeungil Saenggogi was more satisfying than I expected. The variety of raw beef is great, but what I remember most is the side dishes. Whenever I ate mungtigi, I was a little disappointed at not feeling full. Here the side dishes are so generous that I barely felt that.
On top of that, the side dishes taste good and you can get more! It felt less like eating one plate of raw beef and more like enjoying a generous full table. You can choose the raw beef to your taste, and there are plenty of things to eat with drinks, so it would be good to visit with friends too.
If you're looking for a Daegu mungtigi restaurant and care about generous side dishes, I recommend giving it a visit. Next time I'd like to go back and try other kinds of raw beef. haha
