What kind of place is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel?
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) is a charcoal-grilled eel restaurant near Bangbang intersection, close to Yangjae Station. As the weather turns chilly, I find myself craving restorative food, you know? So this time I headed to the Yangjae Station area for eel, which I hadn't had in a while.

The place I visited is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, near Bangbang intersection. It's not far from Yangjae Station and the restaurant is quite large, so it looked like a decent choice for office dinners or family meals.
How to get to Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel from Yangjae Station
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is at 6 Dogok-ro 4-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. If you walk from Yangjae Station Exit 3 toward Dogok-dong, it's not hard to find.

It's close to Bangbang intersection too, so it would work for after-work gatherings. The restaurant uses both the 1st and 2nd floors of the building, and it looked pretty big from the outside. When choosing a company dinner spot, a cramped place can be a bit stressful, but the tables here seemed roomy, so it looked good for groups.
Is it big enough for company dinners and family gatherings?
Inside, there are several tables on the 1st floor plus a 2nd-floor space, so groups shouldn't be a problem. Once I went in, it was bigger than I expected.

With plenty of tables and a 2nd floor as well, it looked great for family gatherings or office dinners with a lot of people.

When you're looking for an evening group-dinner spot around Yangjae Station, a large space like this matters more than you'd think, haha. The atmosphere was comfortable for sitting back, chatting and eating.
Menu and what's included: eel broth and the self-serve bar
At Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, they prepare eel broth for each person at the table, and you can get more side dishes from the self-serve bar.

If you run out of side dishes, you can grab more from the self-serve bar, so you can take as much as you need. They also set out eel broth according to the number of people. I came for eel, but it felt like the health boost started right from the first sip, haha.
How was the charcoal-grilled eel at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel?
Alright, time for the taste review!
Side dishes and charcoal

Once we sat down, the side dishes came out one by one. Lettuce wraps, ginger, white kimchi, seasoned chives and more were laid out neatly. Eating eel is more fun when you can pair it with all sorts of things, so I liked the variety of sides.

After a short wait, the charcoal came in first.
Eel grilled for you by the staff

The eel at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel comes out already prepped, and the staff grill it for you.

Honestly, getting the timing right when you grill eel yourself is surprisingly hard, right? Sometimes the outside burns while the inside is underdone, or you grill it too long and the flesh turns dry. Here, the staff kept watching, flipping it and even cutting it into bite-size pieces, which was so convenient.

As the eel started cooking over the charcoal, a nutty aroma wafted up. The pieces were quite thick and plump, so it looked appetizing just to look at.
I took a bite of the golden-brown eel, and the outside was slightly crisp while the inside stayed moist, so the texture was really good.

Above all, there was almost no fishy smell, and it was clean and nutty, so I could enjoy that distinctive eel flavor without any fuss.

Salt, ginger, sauce: which combo worked best
First, to taste the eel itself, I dipped a piece lightly in salt.

Sure enough, charcoal-grilled eel is delicious with just a little salt. Next I added ginger and also tried wrapping it in lettuce.

The sharp aroma of ginger on top of the eel's richness cut the greasiness, which I liked. Personally, my favorite was the eel + ginger + sauce combo, haha.

Meal menu, plus king oyster mushrooms and grilled rice cake
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel also has meal dishes like eel soup (jangeotang) and eel and loach soup (jangeo chueotang). It felt a shame to stop at just eel, so I looked over the meal menu too, and it seemed like a hearty way to finish. Eating that along with the grilled eel would feel like a proper full meal.

After we'd eaten a fair amount of eel, they also grilled king oyster mushrooms and rice cake for us. I don't know why mushrooms grilled over charcoal are so good, lol. They were a nice, simple extra to finish the eel.
Verdict: is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel good for a Yangjae Station group dinner?
The strengths of Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel were that the staff grill for you and that the space is big. At a company dinner, when you grill meat or eel yourself, one person always ends up watching the grill. Here the staff take care of it, so everyone can chat and eat comfortably. That makes it a good fit for people looking for a Yangjae Station office dinner spot, or a family meal with their parents.
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel was a place where I could easily enjoy plump eel grilled over charcoal. Since the staff grill it, there's little to worry about while eating, and they cooked the eel so it didn't burn. There was almost no fishy smell, and the flesh was thick and moist, so I personally enjoyed it a lot.
Above all, the space is large, so it's worth putting on your shortlist when you're looking for a Yangjae evening restaurant or deciding on a company dinner spot! It was also a good eel restaurant for a family meal or for taking your parents for a health boost, haha. If you're looking for a good eel place near Yangjae Station or Bangbang intersection, I think Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is worth a visit~
