Mikasa is a Japanese home-style restaurant and izakaya in Seorae Village, Seocho-gu, Seoul, serving Japanese comfort lunches by day and sashimi with drinks at night. At Mikasa the conger eel rice bowl (anagoju) is 38,000 won on its own and the avocado hon-maguro sakedon is 34,000 won, with torch-seared eel and thick cuts of tuna and salmon brought in daily from Noryangjin. Mikasa works equally well for a weekday lunch near the Seocho-dong courthouse or a first date.

Jindoken Seongsu Branch is an izakaya on the second floor near Ttukseom Station in Seongsu, Seoul, with the mood of a late-night diner. The order came to 35,000 won for the assorted sashimi, 23,000 won for the Tongyeong mackerel pressed sushi and 6,000 won for the non-alcoholic earl grey highball, and the Tongyeong mackerel was rich and fatty with no fishy edge. Jindoken Seongsu Branch is a softly lit Seongsu bar that even light drinkers can enjoy.

Seongsu café for Thai-style marshmallow bocado: Bocado Butter

Bocado Butter Seongsu Main Store is a Thai-style butter crispy dessert café on Yeonmujang 7-ga-gil, a 5-minute walk from Seongsu Station in Seoul. The Marshmallow Bocado is crisp on the outside with chewy marshmallow inside, and eaten with an Americano and an iced tea it was sweet but never heavy. If you want a light dessert in Seongsu, Bocado Butter is worth the stop.

Gyukatsu and hamburg omurice in Seongsu, Seoul: Gyuen Dang

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is a gyukatsu and omurice restaurant on the second floor of a building a 5-minute walk from Exits 3 and 4 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. The striploin gyukatsu costs 19,000 won and the hamburg omurice 17,000 won, and the beef is grilled 30 seconds per side on a mini brazier at the table, then topped with Isigny butter and eaten with wasabi, salt, and the house sauce in turn so it never gets boring. Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch made a good opening stop on a Seongsu day that continued to Betong, Maman Gelato, and Newnew.
