Sokcho bakery café with sparkling coffee Cafe Rasyawer: Cafe Neorae
In short
Cafe Neorae is a large bakery café in Sokcho, Gangwon, occupying floors 2 to 4 of the Okgoeul Sundubu building with a view of Ulsanbawi Rock. The signature Neorae Latte and the cider-like sparkling coffee Cafe Rasyawer are both 7,500 won, and Sokcho's must-try potato bread and sweet potato bread can be warmed up in the microwave on the ordering floor. The exterior of Cafe Neorae looks plain, but the interior is a surprise, making it a solid pick for good bread in Sokcho.

Cafe Neorae is a bakery café in Sokcho with a view of Ulsanbawi rock. I've been around the restaurants next to the Hanwha Resort in Sokcho a lot, but I had no idea a place this big existed here. The drinks and the bakery items were both fantastic, so I'm recommending this Sokcho bakery café 👍 The outside looks super plain, but the interior is gorgeous — that's Cafe Neorae for you.
Where is Cafe Neorae and when is it open?
Cafe Neorae, the Ulsanbawi-view café in Sokcho, sits at 114 Wonam Haksapyeong-gil, Sokcho, Gangwon, South Korea, 2nd floor. It's about 3 minutes from Hanwha Resort Sokcho and about 5 minutes from Delpino.

Big cafés these days are famous for their bakery quality, but Sokcho exceeded my expectations too. The bakery quality here is way better than the regular bakeries around Sokcho. Where do they find such skilled bakers, haha. Highly recommended as a Sokcho bakery café.
Signature Neorae Latte and potato bread

Ulsanbawi rock is partly blocked by a pillar at Cafe Neorae, but if you sit by the window it's fully visible.

I ordered the Neorae Latte, the Cafe Rasyawer, and both the potato bread and sweet potato bread.

The Neorae Latte is Cafe Neorae's signature drink, with layers of cream, coffee, and milk. Cream lattes are still all the rage these days, haha. Leave it for a bit and you'll see the cream spill down like this.
On top of the drink they've drawn a picture of Ulsanbawi and written 'Neorae' using grains and sugar. I thought it was just grains, but there's sugar mixed in too, so it's nutty and sweet at the same time — really good.

I started by scooping up the soft cream. Smooth, deep dairy cream — really good, haha. Cream quality across the board has really leveled up these days. This one's soft and delicious. Mix the milk and coffee below just a little when you drink, and scoop the cream out separately. If you stir everything together, it ends up tasting like neither one thing nor the other, you know!? Eat the good cream on its own.
What does the sparkling coffee Cafe Rasyawer taste like?

I ordered the Cafe Rasyawer after reading it described as a 'high-class Maecol-flavored coffee.' Those bubbles rising up are carbonation — Cafe Neorae's sparkling coffee has sweet, cider-flavored fizz in it.

You know how coffee foam is called crema!? What looks like crema here is actually carbonation bubbles rising up from below, which gives it that fancy-looking visual. The sweet fizzy drink pairs really well with the coffee — I'd recommend this sparkling coffee too.
Warming up the potato bread and sweet potato bread
Potato bread and sweet potato bread, both Sokcho must-eats, are seriously hefty.

There's a microwave on the ordering floor, so it's even better if you warm them up a bit before eating.

The potato bread has a great sweet-and-salty balance, and the outside is nice and chewy.

The sweet potato bread's outside is a bit softer than the potato bread, and the sweet potato filling is rich and hearty. Cafe Neorae does a great job with both the potato and sweet potato bread. I really just stopped by on my way past, but I ended up thoroughly satisfied with everything — drinks and bakery alike.
Inside Cafe Neorae: floors 2 to 4

Pretty, right!? There's a restaurant on the 1st floor and the café takes up floors 2 to 4, and the interior is a total surprise compared to the exterior. The 4th floor is a rooftop, and there are seats set up there too.
Exterior, parking and the sundubu receipt discount
The 1st floor is the old-style sundubu (soft tofu) restaurant, and Cafe Neorae takes up floors 2 to 4. Unlike a typical large café, it looks so plain from outside, right!? The interior was truly unimaginable, haha.

If you eat sundubu on the 1st floor and then go up to the café, you get a 10% discount.
Cafe Neorae is now saved on my list as a great bakery spot from this trip, and definitely a place I'd go back to. If you're looking for a Sokcho bakery café with great drinks and great bread, I recommend Cafe Neorae 👍
