Jung-gu, Busan sashimi restaurant with free parking: Ppong Sashimi

In short

Ppong Sashimi is a seafood course restaurant in Jungang-dong, Jung-gu, Busan, sitting between Busan Station and Nampo-dong. The writer and her husband ordered the mixed sashimi B course at 60,000 won per person, which kept arriving course after course: abalone porridge, sashimi, tuna yukhoe (raw tuna tartare), grilled seafood, shabu-shabu, clear fish soup and egg rice. With free parking in the alley out front and a bus stop to Gwangalli right outside, Ppong Sashimi works well as dinner before the Gwangalli drone show.

Ppong Sashimi mixed sashimi course, main image, Jungang-dong, Busan

I went with my husband during a trip to Busan. Busan means sashimi, right? Ppong Sashimi caught my eye while I was searching around — a seafood course place where a sushi chef with 30 years of experience cooks everything himself, so I booked right away and went.

It's also a great spot near Busan Station, so it fit nicely into our travel route. Bottom line up front: the course at around ₩60,000 per person didn't feel expensive at all. That's how good the seafood quality was!

Is parking at Ppong Sashimi really free?

There are marked parking spaces in the alley right in front of Ppong Sashimi, and parking there costs nothing extra. This is a genuine tip — free parking in Jungang-dong, Jung-gu, Busan is no small thing, haha.

I couldn't believe you can park like this so close to Busan Station. These days a lot of good restaurants make you walk forever because of parking, but Ppong Sashimi had zero of that stress.

We visited a market near Busan Station, had dinner at Ppong Sashimi, then caught a bus to Gwangalli Beach right from the stop out front. If you're traveling around Busan, this route works well.

Ppong Sashimi menu and course prices

Ppong Sashimi's mixed sashimi and tuna sashimi course menu board

Ppong Sashimi's menu splits into mixed sashimi courses A/B/C and separate tuna sashimi courses A/B/C. On top of that there's omakase, live fish sushi, and a range of lunch specials like egg rice.

Ppong Sashimi's lunch specials and course price list

We had the mixed sashimi B course, ₩60,000 per person. The price alone might sound like a bit much, but once it arrives, it's definitely not expensive. Given the freshness of the seafood and how much came out, it actually felt like good value.

Inside Ppong Sashimi: private rooms and baby chairs

The owner greeted us with a smile as soon as we walked in, which set a nice tone. The entrance was lined with autographs from celebrities. A proper sign that we'd picked the right place!

We ate in a private room, and it was better than I expected.

Seating inside a private room at Ppong Sashimi

It let us focus completely on the food and the conversation. Because the space is private, there seemed to be a lot of families with kids too, and they actually had baby chairs ready. Seems like a good spot for families as well.

What comes in the mixed sashimi B course?

The first spread of the mixed sashimi B course
Abalone porridge and seaweed soup served at the start of the course

First courses: abalone porridge and seaweed soup

Sounds simple, but maybe because the seafood was so good, it was delicious right from the start. And the abalone porridge didn't just have abalone innards — there was actual abalone in it!!!!! Starting off this good made me worry about what was coming.

The sashimi: red seabream, flounder and salmon

The trick here is eating the sashimi together with garlic scapes.

The garlic scapes seemed to be made in-house, and maybe that's why the combination is so worth recommending. Definitely try them together.

Tuna sashimi served as part of the course

Tuna sashimi and tuna yukhoe (raw tuna tartare)

Even the tuna wasn't a basic cut — it came from a properly managed part of the fish.

The seafood plate

A seafood platter with abalone sashimi, octopus with wasabi, sea squirt, and conch

Abalone sashimi, octopus with wasabi, sea squirt, conch and more came out in variety. Even the sushi was a cut above! This felt like real proof of what a Busan sashimi restaurant should be.

Grilled seafood and shabu-shabu

Grilled shrimp, abalone, and scallop, plus grilled fish, then beef shabu-shabu on top of that.

Freshly fried shrimp

This stretch was personally my favorite. You really need to hear how crunchy the fried shrimp sounds.

Curry powder served alongside the fried food

That's curry powder next to it, and it was a surprisingly good flavor pairing!

Last courses: clear fish soup and egg rice

Clear fish soup served at the end of the course

The broth wasn't salty at all, light and clean, so the clear fish soup wrapped things up nicely. And then egg rice on top of that?! Just when we thought it was over, more came out — and again, and again. Portions were never lacking.

How to get from Ppong Sashimi to the Gwangalli drone show

From the bus stop right outside Ppong Sashimi, it takes 30–40 minutes by bus to Gwangalli Beach with no transfers. Since we were traveling around Busan, this is how we moved.

  • Arrive at Busan Station
  • Browse Choryang Traditional Market
  • Dinner at Ppong Sashimi
  • Catch the bus to Gwangalli from the stop right out front
  • Watch the drone show at Gwangalli Beach

You board almost right in front of Ppong Sashimi and get off right at Gwangalli Beach, so it's a comfortable ride with no transfers.

Watching the drone show at Gwangalli Beach

A dinner-then-drone-show route that fits together perfectly! (Though after 6pm the bus gets crowded, so watch out — the subway might actually be better in that case!)

Who should eat at Ppong Sashimi?

The final spread at the end of the Ppong Sashimi course

My husband and I kept comparing this spread to other sashimi restaurants we've tried nearby and around Busan. Every place has its own charm, but Ppong Sashimi clearly stands out for its seafood.

  • Couples who want to eat and talk in a private space
  • Anyone looking for a family-friendly spot to bring kids
  • Anyone near Busan Station who wants sashimi without worrying about parking
  • Anyone who prioritizes quality over pure value in a course meal
