Large Gonjiam café: watermelon bread to go for kids at La Cuesta

In short

La Cuesta Gwangju is a large bakery and brunch café on Gyeongchung-daero in Gonjiam, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. After a meal, the writer drove to La Cuesta Gwangju for the signature La Cuesta latte (7,800 won), a milk cream salt bun and a chocolate pastry, then took the seasonal watermelon bread home as a snack for their child. The signature latte and an outdoor space where kids can run around make La Cuesta a Gonjiam café worth coming back to.

We went on a drive and stopped at La Cuesta, a café in Gonjiam, Gwangju, Gyeonggi! It's close to Seoul, so it's an easy, no-stress place to get some fresh air haha.

1st floor: glass gift-box seats

On the 1st floor there are seats shaped like glass gift-wrapping boxes. Unusual, right? They're totally private spots hahaha I bet they're absolutely packed on weekends 😆

2nd floor: floor-to-ceiling windows with nature views and group seating

The 2nd floor has such a pretty green view through the floor-to-ceiling windows haha It feels relaxed in a different way from a café in the city, total healing..☺️ There's even group seating for several people, so I thought it would be great for family or friends!

There's a photo booth too

There's a four-cut photo booth too!!!! Have coffee, take photos, it's a great date course too ✌🏻

Is La Cuesta a good café to visit with kids?

La Cuesta has outdoor tables and a big outdoor space where kids can run around, so it's good with children. Having coffee outside at the outdoor tables in cool weather would be so nice~ haha

Head outside and go up the stairs a little, and there's a wide space that's great for kids to run around!!!! This totally won my heart.... A precious spot where kids can run around in nature while you drink coffee 💚 We'll definitely come back with the kid on a nice day!

La Cuesta menu and prices: what did we eat?

This day we had the La Cuesta latte, an Americano, a chocolate pastry and a milk cream salt bun. La Cuesta sells brunch dishes as well as bakery items, and I hear the food is good too! Sadly we'd already eaten a meal, so we stuck to coffee and bread. There's such a wide variety of bread and so much I wanted to try that I agonized for ages hahaha

The signature La Cuesta latte

The La Cuesta latte was really satisfying, as a signature menu item should be haha It's a latte with cream foam on top of a house-made milk base. The first sip is soft, sweet cream coating your mouth, then the nutty milk and coffee flavors blend together naturally, so good! Totally recommended 👍🏻

Milk cream salt bun and chocolate pastry

The milk cream salt bun is salty and nutty outside like a salt bread, but it's packed with soft milk cream inside haha The cream isn't greasy and the sweet-and-salty balance is so good, I could see why it's a popular item.

The chocolate pastry was crispy outside, and the layered, flaky pastry texture was impressive! It's not sweet at all, and the buttery flavor and chocolate go well together, perfect with coffee 🤗

Seasonal watermelon bread, packed to go as a snack for the kid

We also bought the seasonal watermelon bread! The look of it, I couldn't not buy it lol We packed it up as is for the kid, and they loved it and ate it happily! It's not just cute: the texture is soft and moist, so it's perfect as a snack haha

Is La Cuesta a good outing stop near Hwadam Forest?

La Cuesta is only about 10 minutes from Hwadam Forest, so I really recommend it as a Gwangju drive stop, a Hwadam Forest date course or a family outing~! I felt it's not just a café for coffee, but a place where you can enjoy the space itself!

With its big interior, wide range of bakery items, nature views, outdoor tables, a garden where kids can run around and a photo booth, there's so much to enjoy that it should please family, couples and friends alike haha Next time I'd love to come back and try the brunch menu. A satisfying café 👍🏻
