Pork BBQ date in Suam-dong, Ulsan: 50,000-won set for two at Biniljip

In short

Biniljip Suam Branch is a camping-style pork belly restaurant in a residential alley in Suam-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan. At a vinyl tent terrace table, two of us shared the Biniljip hanpan platter (500g) with a meat-packed kimchi stew set for 50,000 won, then made chive and kimchi pancakes and Han River-style ramyeon at the unlimited self-bar. Biniljip Suam Branch is a good-value pork BBQ spot that suits both a date and a group dinner.

A camping-vibe restaurant in Nam-gu, Ulsan — Biniljip Suam Branch, a pork BBQ favorite in Suam-dong.

I normally love pitching a tent or camping and spending time outdoors, but with the hot weather lately it's been hard to play outside, so I started craving the taste of meat grilled in an outdoor vinyl greenhouse or campsite instead. Then I heard there was a pork belly spot in Suam-dong where you could get that camping feeling, so I went straight there for a date. That place was Biniljip Suam Branch, a Nam-gu, Ulsan favorite.

A place where you can enjoy juicy meat and hot stew in an outdoor atmosphere, plus a generous unlimited self-bar service, it hits both mood and value at once — a great choice if you want to enjoy delicious meat with a camping feel 👍

Where is Biniljip Suam Branch and where to park? 5–8 min from Suam Market

Exterior of Biniljip Suam Branch tucked in a residential alley

Biniljip Suam Branch sits deep inside an alley off Suamro 128beon-gil in Nam-gu, Ulsan, near a cozy residential neighborhood, so even the walk there felt warm and neighborhood-like. Suam Market (Suam Hanwoo Night Market) is just 5 to 8 minutes away on foot, so it was a perfect route for browsing the market before dinner.

There's Suam Public Parking Lot and Suamhoesusansijang Public Parking Lot right next to the restaurant, so parking was easy too. Suam Public Parking Lot doesn't offer fee support, while Suamhoesusansijang Public Parking Lot can offer free parking support, so keep that in mind when parking!

Vinyl tent terrace or indoor group tables: where to sit at Biniljip

Wood-tone indoor group seating area

The inside of Biniljip is split into two distinct vibes. The indoor group seating area has a rustic yet calm, tidy wood-tone feel that older folks would love. It felt like a great atmosphere for group or family gatherings, or work dinners.

And the vinyl tent terrace section we were aiming for really felt like being at an actual outdoor campsite, thanks to the string lights hanging from the ceiling. Chatting away inside the clear windbreak tent while smelling the meat grilling really brought out the date-night mood.

Indoor waiting area near the entrance

There's also an indoor waiting area right in front of the entrance, so you can wait comfortably regardless of the weather — a nice touch.

Another draw here is the unlimited self-bar — besides the basic side dishes, you can freely grab rice cakes, salad and more from the side dish self-bar, and even make your own chive pancake and kimchi pancake, or cook ramyeon Han River-style.

What to order for two: Biniljip hanpan and kimchi stew set for 50,000 won

Biniljip Suam Branch's menu was varied, with individual meat orders, meals and drinks, but what caught my eye was the value-packed combo of meat and stew served together. You can choose a set depending on party size, and since there were two of us, we ordered the Biniljip hanpan + stew set. It comes with 500g of meat plus a stew. We chose the meat-packed kimchi stew, finishing our order at ₩50,000.

Right now there's a new menu item, pork jumulleok, and if you order the hanpan you get mukbap (acorn jelly) as part of an ongoing event, so keep that in mind when ordering!

There's also a review event — write a receipt review and they give you a bottle of soju or beer, or two soft drinks, as a service. Small joys like this shouldn't be missed, so give it a try haha.

The basic side dishes come in a lineup that pairs well with meat. From the spicy-seasoned scallion salad to crunchy seasoned bean sprouts, and bracken fern that's perfect grilled with the meat! Salted hairtail guts and pickled chili peppers came along too, so I got excited thinking about all the different combos. Besides these, there was rice cake and salad on the side-dish self-bar that we grabbed to eat.

Frying your own chive and kimchi pancakes at the Biniljip self-bar

Before grilling the meat, we first drizzled plenty of oil on a frying pan and fried up chive pancake and kimchi pancake until golden, and it turned out to be surprisingly fun to make ourselves. It took some effort and kept our hands busy since we had to fry it ourselves, but being able to eat freshly fried, super crispy pancake at whatever thickness we wanted actually felt like an advantage 👍 In fact the kimchi pancake was so good that even though we were full, we fried another batch. I'd definitely recommend trying both the chive and kimchi pancakes!

How good is the meat in the 500g Biniljip hanpan platter for two?

Homemade chive pancake and kimchi pancake

The Biniljip hanpan comes out at 500g, made up of glistening pork belly, pork neck, and crispy pork neck. You could tell just by looking that the meat quality was good. I expected the usual portion for 500g, but it came out looking more generous than at other places.

Raw meat placed on the large griddle with kimchi and bean sprout sides

On the wide, large griddle, they placed the meat in the center and piled kimchi, bean sprouts, bracken fern, and rice cake slices along the path below where the fat drips down. As the meat fat soaked savorily into the vegetables while they cooked, with that sizzling sound on top, my mouth was watering like crazy 🔥 The smell of the meat grilling was seriously incredible too. The meat quality was good, so there was no gamey smell at all.

The pork belly had a crispy exterior with savory juices bursting out with every bite. You could even feel the chewiness of the fat, giving it incredible depth of flavor. It wasn't greasy at all, so it never got tiring. The pork neck was thick but not dry — moist and tender inside. It had a clean, mild flavor, so it was delicious even with just a light dip in salt. The crispy pork neck had that springy yet slightly crunchy texture typical of a specialty cut, which was fun to chew. Everything was delicious, but we unanimously agreed the pork neck was the best — that mild flavor was unbeatable.

Best side-dish pairings for each pork cut

We tried it wrapped in lettuce and also with various side dishes. Wrapping pork neck with grilled bean sprouts, bracken fern, garlic, and scallion salad was the best combination. Pork belly paired well with pickled chili peppers and ssamjang together, giving a salty yet spicy flavor combo. Crispy pork neck eaten with bracken fern maximized the meat's flavor alongside the fern's taste — addictive.

Meat-packed kimchi stew with generous chunks of meat

The meat-packed kimchi stew that came with the set lived up to its name — the earthenware pot was generously loaded with big chunks of meat, and the spicy, deep broth practically demanded rice. I almost ordered rice because the broth was so good, but since we still had ramyeon to eat, the portions were already so large we couldn't fit in rice.

Han River-style Yeul Ramyeon cooked at the self-bar

Finishing with Han River-style Yeol Ramyeon

We were so full, but the smell of ramyeon from other tables made it impossible to resist. I picked Yeul Ramyeon from the several options at the self-bar and cooked it up — adding the scallions from the scallion salad side dish while boiling made it even spicier and tastier. It was the perfect way to finish. With 500g of meat, the stew, the pancakes from the self-bar, and finally the Han River-style ramyeon, it was such an abundant meal that the two of us were practically bursting 🤍

After the meal, there's a machine placed near the entrance so you can have some coffee. It was nice to have a simple way to cleanse your palate afterward.

Why Biniljip Suam Branch works for a date or a group dinner

With the emotional camping-like terrace atmosphere plus all the generous self-bar perks, I found myself thinking I'd have to come back soon with friends for a gathering. It seemed especially great for group get-togethers like work dinners, and the atmosphere also made it a fitting spot for a date.

The set menu was great value with a generous portion, and the meat quality was excellent too, so we really enjoyed it. Adding the spicy kimchi stew and the crispy pancakes and ramyeon made from the self-bar completed a perfect spread. Between the two of us, finishing the Biniljip hanpan set plus pancakes and ramyeon left us bursting full. But nothing fell short in flavor, so I think we'd end up just as stuffed if we visited again. I recommend spending a warm, romantic time at Biniljip Suam Branch, an Ulsan pork BBQ favorite where you can eat well across several dishes without breaking the bank 👍
