Weekend daytime soju & mixed gopchang in Mokdong: Omokgyo Gopchang
In short
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a 30-year-old gopchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurant near Exit 1 of Omokgyo Station in Mokdong, Yangcheon, Seoul. On a weekend afternoon the writer and her husband ordered the mixed gopchang platter (27,900 won), Omokgyo fried rice and soju. They were happy with the free cheonyeop (beef tripe) and spicy soft tofu stew, the fire show, the garlic gopchang with no gamey smell and the plump daechang (beef large intestine). For a roomy gopchang spot in Mokdong where even the fried rice is good, Omokgyo Gopchang fits well.

Omokgyo Gopchang has 30 years of history, built on a mother's recipe, and is the place to try the original handmade garlic gopchang and green onion kimchi.

Is Omokgyo Gopchang good for company dinners or dates?
The place is spacious with plenty of seats, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for a company dinner spot in Mokdong!

There's also a self-service black-and-white photo booth, so it was nice to take a photo after eating. It's great for a date, or for snapping a picture after drinks with friends!

As a 30-year-old Mokdong favorite, it has been featured on TV several times, and the walls full of celebrity autographs really make it feel like a famous meat spot.

Omokgyo Gopchang menu and side dishes

The side dishes are seasoned chives, pickled onion, a sesame oil dip and a secret sauce, all a good match for gopchang.
The handmade green onion kimchi is said to be made exactly to the mother's recipe, with chili powder the owner's parents grow themselves. The secret sauce is supposedly made from 15 ingredients aged for 72 hours, and it tastes great with the shiitake mushroom and wasabi!

It's a thoughtful place that even gives you vitamins as a freebie! And if you set up notifications via the QR code, you can get a cold drink for free too.
Free tripe and spicy tofu stew at Omokgyo Gopchang
Omokgyo Gopchang serves fresh tripe and even a spicy tofu stew for free. It's a great Mokdong meat spot for a drink or two.

The tofu stew, simmered spicy with a special seasoning paste, cut the richness of the gopchang and was a perfect pairing. It's packed with soft tofu too, so it's a top-notch drinking snack! Extra tofu stew is ₩8,900.

What we ordered: mixed gopchang ₩27,900, Omokgyo fried rice, soju
- Mixed gopchang ₩27,900
- Omokgyo fried rice (1–2 servings) ₩6,900
- Soju ₩5,000
The mixed gopchang came with a fire show, which was fun to watch, and the subtle smoky flavor made it even tastier.

Garlic gopchang, bull gopchang, daechang (thick large intestine), makchang (abomasum), beehive tripe and grilled heart all arrive on one plate, so we got to try lots of cuts.

How long should you grill the mixed gopchang?
The gopchang comes pre-grilled, so you only need to cook it a little more, which was convenient. The staff recommended grilling the heart only briefly, since it gets tough if cooked too long!

You can't have gopchang without soju 🍻 Gopchang and soju starting in the middle of a weekend day felt amazing!!!

Whole garlic gopchang
The whole garlic gopchang has whole garlic cloves in it, giving a gentle garlic aroma, and it was chewy with no off smell. The whole garlic is the kicker!

Daechang, from a daechang lover
Some people avoid daechang because it's greasy, but I'm a daechang lover! The plump daechang here looked delicious from the very first glance and was full of rich flavor. When it felt a little greasy, I dipped it generously in the spicy secret sauce, and the combo was great.

Omokgyo fried rice for ₩6,900: how big is the portion?
We finished with the Omokgyo fried rice (1–2 servings, ₩6,900)! It's stir-fried with antibiotic-free eggs and 5 ingredients in beef fat, which made it extra nutty and rich. It's topped with lots of cheese and has flying fish roe mixed in, so the popping texture was fun.

The menu says 1–2 servings, but the portion was bigger than I expected. A meat spot with great fried rice too, so it gets my approval!

Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch: overall verdict
- Recommended if you're looking for a good meat spot in Mokdong
- A good company dinner spot in Mokdong
- A recommended gopchang place in Omokgyo
- Even the fried rice is delicious
The staff were friendly, the gopchang was clean with no off smell, and the plump daechang was totally my style. Omokgyo Gopchang is a Mokdong meat spot I'd happily return to, and my husband and I decided to come back on a rainy day for gopchang hot pot and soju!
