Hadan, Busan rice cake shop: rainy-day injeolmi trio to share, Hohobak

Hohobak (호호박) is a rice cake shop near Hadan Station in Saha-gu, Busan, known for rice castella pumpkin injeolmi (chewy rice cake coated in castella crumbs) and popular for return gifts. On a rainy day, the writer reserved 5 small boxes of pumpkin, mugwort and black sesame castella injeolmi plus 2 bottles of 250ml Hohobak milk to share, and liked the chewy rice cake and gentle sweetness. Hohobak is a Hadan rice cake shop worth a stop when you need return gifts or a snack for all ages.

Sinpyeong Busan Milmyeon (신평부산밀면) is a new milmyeon (Busan-style cold wheat noodle) restaurant across from Hanam Middle School in Sinpyeong-dong, Saha-gu, Busan. After work, the writer had water milmyeon (8,500 won), water bibim milmyeon (9,500 won) and king mandu dumplings (6,000 won), and liked the icy slush broth, the nutty warm broth and the chewy noodles. Verdict: the mild, tangy water bibim milmyeon at Sinpyeong Busan Milmyeon suited the writer's taste best.

Busan poke shop: pork poke dinner, burrito breakfast at PARENTS

PARENTS Coffee & Salad Jungang-dong Branch is a poke and salad shop in Jung-gu, Busan, a 3-minute walk from Exit 14 of Jungang Station. The writer took home a seasoned pork neck poke salad (13,000 won) and a crispy chicken burrito sandwich (7,900 won) for dinner. The portions were so generous that only the poke was eaten that night and the burrito was saved for breakfast the next morning. PARENTS Coffee & Salad is a good fit for Jungang-dong office workers who want a healthy, filling meal.

Seomyeon bakery: peanut bread on injeolmi shaved ice at Daeshin

Daeshin Peanut Bread Busan Seomyeon Branch is a takeaway bakery in front of Seomyeon Station Exit 6 in Busanjin, Busan, selling the peanut bread known from Daegu's Seomun Market. I took home an 80-piece box of peanut bread for 10,000 won, froze it, and on a hot day topped a few pieces on an injeolmi (roasted soybean rice cake) cup shaved ice, and the two nutty flavors went well together. Daeshin Peanut Bread is small enough to share and priced low enough for office or kids' snacks.
