Working Holiday Millak is an ocean-view café and restaurant on the 7th floor of the Badamaru building on Millaksubyeon-ro in Suyeong, Busan, overlooking Gwangalli. A couple sat by the window for a margherita pizza (22,000 won) and a mushroom cream pasta made with pappardelle (18,000 won), then took home a financier from Working Holiday Millak's Naver receipt review event. The chewy pizza dough, thick cream sauce and dense, chewy financier won them over, and they plan to return for a coffee-and-dessert date.

Kyungsung Univ pork soup on a pre-move date, hygiene-certified: Geumsu

Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch is a dwaeji gukbap (pork and rice soup) restaurant near Kyungsung Univ and Bugyeongdae Station in Nam-gu, Busan. The writer, who was about to move to the neighborhood, stopped by on a date and ordered pork gukbap and sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) at ₩9,500 each, plus dumplings for ₩6,000. The writer was pleased with the spotless Ansim Restaurant-certified dining room, from the entrance to the restroom, the broth with no gamey smell, and the kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) at the unlimited rice and noodle self-bar. Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap is a hearty gukbap spot near Kyungsung Univ worth recommending, even to diners who care about hygiene.

Japanese rice bowls in Gwangalli: karaage-don set for two, Peisen-dong

Peisen-dong Gwangalli is a Japanese rice bowl restaurant on the second floor of a building on an alley in Millak-dong, Suyeong, Busan. A couple shared the 31,000 won set for two, with katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl), karaage-don (Japanese fried chicken rice bowl), Nagoya cold soba and drinks, and both named the karaage-don the best dish. Peisen-dong Gwangalli is a good Gwangalli date stop for cold soba and rice bowls on a hot summer day.

Gwangalli pizzeria date, hot honey pepperoni & lemon soda: Extra Mile

Extra Mile is a pizza and pasta restaurant in a converted house on Suyeong-ro 554beonga-gil in Gwangalli, Busan, and the first Gwangalli venue from the team behind Freewall Pizza, Pickles and Upper East Bakery. A couple walked into Extra Mile with no wait around 4–5 p.m. on a sweltering Sunday and ordered the Classic Combo: a half hot honey pepperoni, half potato pizza plus bisque cream pasta, with lemon-topped sodas and crayon coloring at the table. The verdict: Extra Mile's hot honey pepperoni pizza on chewy Caputo-flour dough was both diners' top pick.

Jeonpo pizza after work: first lasagna and draft beer at Pickles

Pickles is a pizza and pasta restaurant in an alley off Jeonpo Saitgil in Jeonpo-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan. A couple went to Pickles after work between 4 and 5pm with no wait and ordered a half-and-half jambon-beurre and taco pizza, a pasta set upgraded to lasagna for 5,000 won extra and two 300cc draft beers. The rich ragu sauce of the reviewer's first-ever lasagna was the highlight, and an early evening visit before the peak hours is the recommendation.

Seomyeon, Busan peanut bread shop: caffeine-free peanut latte, Daeshin

Daeshin Peanut Bread Busan Seomyeon Branch is a street snack shop in Seomyeon, Busan, selling the peanut bread people line up for at Daegu's Seomun Market. After an evening date in Jeonpo, memories of a Daegu trip drew the writer in for 20 peanut breads (₩3,000) and an iced peanut latte (₩3,500); the peanut-packed bread and caffeine-free latte won them over, and they also tried the owner's tip of eating the bread frozen. For peanut lovers, Daeshin Peanut Bread is worth a stop: buy more than 20 and freeze some.

Shabu kalguksu date near Paldo Market, Busan: Paldo Shabu Kalguksu

Paldo Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu kalguksu (shabu-shabu with knife-cut noodles) restaurant near Paldo Market and Suyeong Station in Suyeong, Busan. A couple sat on the first floor, ordered shabu kalguksu for 2 with spicy broth (₩11,000 per person) by QR code, and ate beef and minari (Korean water parsley) shabu, house-made noodles topped with heart-shaped sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes), and fried rice with the restaurant's own homemade kimchi. Thanks to the large parking lot right out front, Paldo Shabu Kalguksu is an easy stop to pair with grocery shopping at Paldo Market.

Date-night bar in Suyeong, Busan: kiosk-only Bu set at Buheongsanjang

Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch (부엉이산장 부산수영점) is a forest-lodge-themed Korean pub near Exit 5 of Suyeong Station in Busan. After work, the writer and their partner ordered the Bu set (gopdoritang, a spicy chicken and beef-intestine stew, plus cheese potato pancake), which is sold only on the tablet kiosk. They enjoyed the crispy potato pancake, the minari-scented gopdoritang and the friendly seating help. Buheongsanjang Busan Suyeong branch is worth recommending as an atmospheric date spot that also hosts group dinners of up to 15.

Gwangan Station BBQ date: black pork belly & pork noodles, Myeongseung

Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi (명승제주생고기) is an authentic Jeju-style Korean BBQ restaurant near Exit 1 of Gwangan Station in Suyeong, Busan. On a weekend date, a couple ordered 2 portions each of FCG quality-certified black pork belly and fresh pork ribs, dipped them in myeoljeot (Jeju fermented anchovy sauce), and finished with Jeju pork noodles with salted shrimp stirred in, as the owner suggested. With thick cuts, Jeju-style side dishes like bracken egg pancake and rapeseed greens kimchi, and friendly service, Myeongseung Jeju Saenggogi was a satisfying Gwangalli BBQ spot.

Gwangalli cold noodle shop at Sunday opening: Gwangan Naengmyeon

Gwangan Naengmyeon (광안냉면), formerly Isangjae Hamhung Naengmyeon, is a naengmyeon (Korean cold noodle) restaurant with house-made noodles on Suyeong-ro 594beon-gil in Gwangan-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan. A couple arrived at the 11 a.m. Sunday opening as the first guests and ordered two bowls of mul bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles in a spicy, icy broth), made with thin noodles kneaded fresh every day, plus steamed dumplings, and were happy enough to finish the last of the seasoned broth. On weekends, arrive at Gwangan Naengmyeon right at opening time to get a seat without a rush.

Gwangalli brunch café with standout house salad dressing: Famous Benny

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch (페이머스 베니 광안리점) is an Australian-style brunch café on a side street in Millak-dong, Suyeong, Busan, open daily from 8am. On a sweltering summer day, the writer and her younger sister ordered The Famous Benny with salmon, an acai bowl, a house salad and iced Americanos made with Dukes beans; the house salad dressing and the perfectly poached eggs stood out. Dukes coffee with the signature eggs Benedict at Famous Benny is a Gwangalli brunch worth a strong recommendation.

Busan milmyeon restaurant packed by 11am on a date: Seomyeon Milmyeon

Seomyeon Milmyeon is a milmyeon (Busan cold wheat noodle) restaurant on the first floor of EOS Plaza on Seojeon-ro in Busanjin, Busan. Seomyeon Milmyeon was already full 30–40 minutes after its 11am opening; the writer ordered bibim milmyeon, mul-milmyeon and dumplings at the kiosk and started with the warm bone broth simmered for 72 hours. The bibim milmyeon, eaten without cutting the noodles, was mild and easy on the stomach, and with luggage storage and waiting benches, Seomyeon Milmyeon made a thoughtful date meal in Seomyeon.
