While hunting for a nice-atmosphere restaurant near Seoul, I ended up at Waltz and Dr. Mahn in Namyangju! I usually go café-hopping, but this time I wanted to enjoy a relaxed lunch course looking out at the Bukhan River. The vibe here is totally different from the big trendy cafés everywhere these days, so it'd be great for a special occasion too.
Waltz and Dr. Mahn's lunch course is ₩75,000 per person. I'll drop a tip partway through for snagging a good-view seat!!
Red brick exterior: why Waltz and Dr. Mahn feels unlike Seoul
The exterior of Waltz and Dr. Mahn is red brick, giving it an antique feel. It's basically Europe-in-Seoul? Well, not exactly in Seoul, but the vibe is next level — this atmosphere just doesn't happen in the city. If you're on a Namyangju drive, this is a must-add stop. Grab a Dumulmeori hot dog for dessert after lol.
Follow the Bukhan River — famous as a Namyangju drive course — and you'll run into Waltz and Dr. Mahn. It feels less like a typical café and more like an old-fashioned European restaurant. This place also runs a coffee museum alongside the restaurant, so it's well known among coffee lovers too.

Why an indoor river-view seat needs a reservation
At Waltz and Dr. Mahn, the indoor seats definitely have the better atmosphere. If you just walk in, the inner seats are often full, so booking through Catch Table or Naver Reservations is essential. From the building's exterior alone, it's a different mood from the usual Bukhan River cafés! This isn't really a grab-a-coffee-and-go spot — it's somewhere you want to visit with plenty of time to spare.
Once you're seated on the terrace, you can't switch to an inside seat, so if you really want to sit indoors, either wait it out or reserve ahead of time!!
One of the charms of Waltz and Dr. Mahn is the classic interior. Unlike modern large-format cafés, it's defined by antique furniture and a calm atmosphere. It felt so different from the cafés I usually visit that it made for great photos too.
What the 75,000-won lunch course starts with
The first course was an abalone appetizer. It whetted the appetite just right — good! You also get to choose between white or red wine.
And here's one of the biggest reasons to visit this place — the Bukhan River view! Getting to enjoy the riverside scenery while eating was such a draw. When I made the reservation, I asked for a window seat, and they remembered and gave me a great view. Definitely mention it when booking and ask for a good view.
House-baked bread and potato soup came out. The bread was warm and delicious.
It's the kind of setting you'd expect from a matchmaking scene in an Im Sung-han drama lol. And the view is perfect too.
Eating the bread and soup together was nice and filling.
A somewhat reinvented caprese. Fresh and lovely.
Main courses: sirloin steak and tomato pasta
For mains I picked sirloin steak and tomato pasta. The sirloin was tender and the sauce was tasty. The lobster pasta had plenty of shrimp — good. I should have gotten something other than tomato pasta though, it was pretty average. Next time I'll go with sirloin and tenderloin.
But hey? Everything tastes good in front of a view like this. Honestly, the interior and the view carried it. Good Seoul omakase sushi is great, but this kind of special interior and special view isn't something you find often. Bring anyone here for a special occasion and you'll score major points, guaranteed.
They also give you a hot stone so the food doesn't go cold.

For dessert, sorbet came out. After that, coffee follows too.
If you mention in advance that you're coming for a birthday, they'll surprise you with something special!!! So romantic.
No one would dislike this. Highly recommend it as an anniversary restaurant. Finish eating, take a walk nearby, or drop by Dumulmeori Garden (물의정원) close by, and you've got a whole day's date course sorted~
