Yeongjong Chinese restaurant before mudflat play: Bongga Gyodong
In short
Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a Chinese restaurant with house-made noodles on Eungol Café Street in Unseo-dong, Yeongjong, Incheon. On a weekend lunch before a mudflat outing, a family of three ordered Chodang soft tofu jjamppong rice (spicy seafood soup with rice, 12,000 won) as a hangover cure, jjajang rice (black bean sauce rice, 8,000 won) for a picky 7-year-old who cleared the bowl, and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, 13,000 won). The jjamppong is good, but Bongga Gyodong Banjeom's crispy tangsuyuk is a must-order for a family lunch.

We were heading to Yeongjong for a mudflat experience, and my husband, who drank way too much the night before, wanted a jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) to cure his hangover. So I searched like crazy for a great jjamppong place and found this Yeongjong Chinese restaurant, Bongga Gyodong Banjeom (본가교동반점). Let me tell you about the jjamppong, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and jjajang rice we ate :)

Where is Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, and what are the hours and parking?
Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is at 50-8 Hwarangmok-ro, Yeongjong-gu, Incheon, South Korea (1st floor), about a 13-minute walk from Exit 2 of Unseo Station. You can park right in front of the shop! It's on Eunggol Café Street, so there are tons of trendy, hot cafés nearby!!
- Hours: Mon, Tue, Thu 11:00–19:00, break time 15:00–16:00
- Fri, Sat, Sun 11:00–15:00 (no break time)
- Closed every Wednesday
- It may close early when ingredients run out, so calling the shop before you go is recommended
- Groups (up to 40 people), takeout, reservations and baby chairs available
There's a funny sign at the entrance reading "Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun", so we walked in laughing. Since it can close early when ingredients run out, definitely check the hours before you visit!

How long is the weekend lunch wait at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom?
The restaurant filled up fast at weekend lunch. We came at lunchtime and were the second party in, and it was full and a waiting line had started before our food even came out. (If we'd been even 5 minutes later, we would have waited a long time...)

Atmosphere and facilities for kids
The restaurant is spacious and clean, a really pleasant Chinese restaurant. The tables are spaced widely, too!

It looks good for eating alone, as a pair or with a bigger group :) If you reserve ahead, groups of up to 40 people are possible, so if you have a group, be sure to call the shop. They also have a toddler chair and disposable aprons!

House-made noodles and the self-serve bar
Gyodong Banjeom doesn't use store-bought noodles; they mix and age their own noodles in-house! They say that makes the noodles chewier! I'm already looking forward to it.

At the self-serve bar you can grab tongs, ladles, scissors, small plates and even side dishes!
Menu, prices and what our family of three ordered

You can order easily from the tablet at each seat, and prices are very reasonable! Here's what the three of us ordered.
- Chodang soft tofu jjamppong rice ₩12,000
- Jjajang rice ₩8,000
- Mini tangsuyuk ₩13,000
By the way, jjajang rice wasn't on the Naver menu, so I was going to order jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) for our 7-year-old, but the shop had jjajang rice on its menu, so we ordered that instead ^^

After a short wait, our food came out!

How is the soft tofu jjamppong rice for a hangover?
The chodang soft tofu jjamppong rice at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom has a spicy, fiery broth that was just right for a hangover. The jjajang rice also comes with a side of jjamppong broth! The soft tofu is made with Gangneung chodang tofu, and you can see its softness just by looking at it!

We even mixed in the rice and ate it all up. That spicy, fiery broth!

Did the 7-year-old finish the jjajang rice?
The jjajang rice at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is so delicious that even my picky kid cleaned the bowl.

Why you must order the mini tangsuyuk
The mini tangsuyuk (₩13,000) at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom has a pale, creamy color that shows it was fried in clean oil. The sauce comes separately so both dippers and pourers are happy! And the sauce is really good too!!!!!!!!

The jjamppong is delicious, but please, please order the tangsuyuk too!!! The batter is super thin, the meat is generous, and the crunch is insane!!!

Several parties waiting when we left: reserve ahead
By the time we left Bongga Gyodong Banjeom it was packed, with several parties waiting!!! I recommend making a reservation before you go.

We finished with the Yakult-style yogurt drink they give as a final treat, a proper palate cleanser!! Our kid had already come in a rash guard, ready to go straight to the mudflats, haha. If you're stopping by Yeongjong for mudflat fun, I highly recommend this Yeongjong Chinese restaurant, Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, that mom, dad and kid will all love :)
