Sunday family lunch at a Suji noodle restaurant: Chilseong Jemyeonso

In short

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch is a noodle and pork cutlet restaurant near Seongbok Station at 80 Seongbok 1-ro, Suji-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi. Arriving just before noon on a Sunday with a baby, the writer ordered handmade kongguksu (cold soy milk noodle soup), charcoal-grilled beef belly bibim jjolmyeon (spicy chewy cold noodles) and a 100% Korean whole pork loin cutlet, and found free parking in the building's basement plus baby chairs and baby dishes. Of the three dishes, the charcoal beef bibim jjolmyeon was the one everyone kept reaching for.

  • the menu is varied and every single dish is delicious,

You can park for free in the building's basement lot. As of Sunday noon, there was no shortage of spots.

Inside Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji: seating and how busy it gets

Let me show you the inside first. We arrived just before noon on Sunday, and there were only two or three tables occupied — I thought, wow, why are there so many free seats? Is it because it's raining?? But by close to one o'clock, it got really packed with customers. There are occasionally days with a wait, but on this day there was no wait while we were eating.

There are baby chairs and baby dishware set aside separately, so it's a stress-free place for a family meal out with a baby. Maybe that's why there are always lots of families with babies here too.

The seating inside is on the spacious side, and two tables are pushed together in the middle section, so it's a good spot for larger group gatherings too!

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji menu and prices

What surprised me the first time I came to Chilseong Jemyeonso was that the menu is reeeally huge. It's big enough that I wondered how they manage to keep track of it all. True to the name Chilseong Jemyeonso (noodle house), there are tons of noodle dishes — kongguksu, fresh wheat noodles, soba, udon, jjolmyeon — but if you're not a big noodle person, no need to worry, because there are also plenty of non-noodle dishes like tteokbokki, pork cutlet, gukbap, and bibimbap. Side dishes run about ₩3,000–₩8,000, and base menu items are around mid-₩10,000s.

We ordered the 100% domestic whole pork loin cutlet, handmade kongguksu, and charcoal beef bulgogi bibim jjolmyeon.

Handmade kongguksu (cold soy milk noodle soup)

The kongguksu comes out unsalted, so you can season it exactly how you like, and the broth is thick and nutty — it's the dish I end up ordering every single time I come to Chilseong Jemyeonso.

Just from this photo you can tell how thick and rich the broth is.

Charcoal-grilled beef belly bibim jjolmyeon (spicy chewy cold noodles)

This was my first time ordering the jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles), and it was much, much better than I expected. Of the three dishes we ordered that day, this got the most love.

The jjolmyeon is delicious on its own, tangy and sharp, but mixed with the charcoal-grilled beef bulgogi, the whole dish took on a smoky charcoal flavor that made it even better.

The noodles were incredibly chewy, there were plenty of vegetables, and it paired really well with the pork cutlet we also ordered — very satisfying.

100% Korean whole pork loin cutlet

Since having a baby, I've become sensitive about country-of-origin labeling. A few days ago I ate out somewhere and searched everywhere but couldn't find the origin listed anywhere, no matter how hard I looked. At Chilseong Jemyeonso, though, the origin is written in large text, and it's even in the menu name itself: '100% domestic.' I ordered this to share with my baby, who's now on seasoned baby food, and the combo with the jjolmyeon was really good.

The crunch practically breaks through the photo...

Crispy fried 100% domestic whole pork loin cutlet

They're a noodle specialist, but they're great at pork cutlet too. The batter was so crispy and delicious that the baby kept eyeing it.

Cross-section of the thickly sliced pork loin cutlet

Being 100% domestic whole pork loin already made it trustworthy, but the meat was also thick and the batter crisp — no complaints at all.

They cut each piece really thick — I think my baby will end up eating almost two pieces...
